Which is everyone watching? The world title fight or SN's Setanta debut...Obviously both channels to replays. But:

Setanta replays are a bit thin - they only show the main event, 1 hour. Then again, if you've had aspect ratio problems on Virgin, you can normally adjust it by the time of the replay.

Whereas Sky Sports do proper repeats, full 2 hrs.

I really hope they don't start going head to head a lot, like this. It's great to have more boxing of course but when they go head-to-head they're forcing subscribers to miss out on something.

Witter fight no question.

British world champion defending the illustrious green belt on home turf against one of the higher-regarded transatlantic fighters.

Or

A Scot against a Manc on a dinner show in London.

No contest.

Not only that, what about the precedent of two cable bigwigs showing fights at potentially the same time? What if they pick up live US shows on the same day, or continue to put Uk fights simultaneously? HBO and Showtime do it often in America.

Its called 'counter programming' and yes, it is both annoying and a potential future issue in the UK as channels compete for viewers. Ultimately it is the viewer that loses out though..

why's that? They seem to be having a good balance of domestic and international action in the next month or three.

Agreed, Setanta are showing better boxing than Sky are now. And with all the money they are throwing around who would beat against them winning rights to Hatton v Mayweather... l

still, they must have a limit. i thought they'd secured all Hatton fights but they basically got a contract with Hobson. They seem to have helped make Calzaghe-Kessler, but we've been led to believe that the fight isn't even official.

Te 'Dinner Show' is to raise money for a childrens charity and is an annual event. it was arranged over three years ago. It was certainly not arranged to clash with Junior Witter's next epic title defence so I very much doubt Hennessy will be as short sighted as you lot and criticise something that raises money for sick children with a view to furthering the
exciting career of Junior Witter and his show at Donny Dome.

The auld enemy meet again as England's Andy Morris challenges Scot John Simpson for the British featherweight title in a third showdown between the pair.
Simpson won the title from Morris on a controversial cut eye stoppage last December at the ExCel. Morris was ruled out in the fifth round bleeding from the cut over the left eye (six stitches). He was bossing the fight and feels he would have gone on to beat Simpson, injury or no injury, and had previously well-outscored the Greenock man for the vacant title in Glasgow in November 2005.
But referee John Keane thought otherwise.
It was a heartbreaking way for the Mancunian to lose the coveted Lonsdale Belt and his 14-fight unbeaten record, even more so when Simpson was allowed to fight 12 rounds against Derry Matthews three months later with a horrible cut on the scalp.
"Referees make fights," cracked Andy Morris Snr at ringside (Micky Vann officiated Matthews-Simpson).
So this is the 'rubber', and while Morris has languished relatively on the sidelines since, just a routine blowout of veteran Daniel Thorpe to show for the last nine months (body shots; his third win over Thorpe), Simpson cashed in with that 12-rounder against Matthews in Liverpool, where he was unanimously outpointed despite dropping unbeaten Matthews in the first and pushing him to the brink of disqualification, and a successful first defence of his British title against Londoner Ryan Barrett in June in Mayfair's Millennium Hotel, where Alexander Litvinenko was poisoned and where John scored an emphatic five-round knockout.
So the neat-boxing Simpson looks to have 'grown' as champ and looks to be adding snap to his work and opened the cut against Morris with a cracking combination of right hands (we've all seen blatant headwork open cuts). Morris is not much of a puncher, despite that quick win over Thorpe, but enjoys biting down on the gumshield and getting stuck in and that's what cost him last time. Expect him to stick to his boxing, much as he did in the first fight. He's the more talented of the two, a beautiful stylist with good handspeed and much the better workrate, although BOTH are tough, gritty, improving 24-year-olds. Even in defeat, Simpson performed exceptionally against Matthews.
A pairing worthy of the belt.
Morris might be tight at the weight. He scaled a whopping 9st 8 1/2 lbs for his win over Thorpe in Cardiff in July and boxed at lightweight in the amateurs. Fighters who dry out are often prone to cuts, you know. But he's desperate to win back that British title and make up for lost time and we should see him throwing bundles of shots on the move, with Simpson picking moments to land his own shots, especially to the body. But it's hard to see the Scot breaking the challenger's rhythm or slowing him down enough to seize control and leave the ring as champion, though he will undoubtedly prove competitive.

Nobody's criticising the promotion, I was just saying it's no contest which fight I'd watch if I could only choose one.

Mainly because the SN domestic action was available on ITV and before that on SKY - Ok it is still available to be picked up, but only because the likes of you and I are prepared to dig deeper into our pockets.

I can't see how paying more out of our own pockets now is more beneficial to us than it was when we didn't.

On a side note, I'll also put a heavy punt on PPV becoming common place on Setanta.

morris will most likely out box simpson so i would rather go to witter fight. hope SN raise lots of money, wear something nice BC

True but ITV would never have done the necessary things to make Calzaghe-Kessler "official."

ITV and SN proved to be an unholy deal. Everything went stagnant.

Setanta isn't just about SN. It's only a 7 fight deal. They have Hobson for a deal of similar length. They're picking up some top US fights and even the Dunne fight.

Sky and ITV let Warren get away with murder. I doubt Setanta will. They've gone the sensible short contract route. Ultimately we get more fights & this is a good thing.

I will never pay PPV for regular SN fights. Only for very big matches.

I doubt the basic stuff will be PPV
