Hey guys, I am a big time Patterson fan.

I just love his style and ring character, I am well aware of his
many faults, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying watching the
man work.

For those who have them, what are your favourite Patterson fights...

Definetely the Chuvalo fight.

One of my all-time favorite fights.

I definately need to see more Patterson fights, probably haven't seen enough to pick a favorite. His brutal KO of Ingo where Johanassons leg is still twitching after he gets counted out is one of my favorite knockouts though.

Patterson is great fun to watch IMO, same with Jose Torres also trained by D'amato.

The Ingo-Patterson trilogy was certainly one of the best fight series at HW in boxing history, but outside of those three, I would say the next two biggest of his career was his victory over Chuvalo and his robbery for the vacant WBA title.

Either the Johannson rematch or the Chuvalo fight.

...patterson started appearing on television early in his career so i saw a lot of his fights, right down to the last one. i agree with those here in liking the chuvalo one best. for one thing, it was a good close action fight. plus, i think it called on every one of patterson's assets..speed, jabbing, moving in and out...taking some tough body shots and coming back when it looked as if chuvalo was pulling ahead , for him to win that one.

as i recall the color commentary by ali, he had picked "chuvaldo" to win, but after a few rounds he was impressed by patterson's use of the jab, which he had not used much in his career.

I remember when he fought a guy named Charlie Devil Green in the Garden in 1970 and Patterson knocked him out in the tenth round with a beautiful left hook to the body. The crowd chanted "FLOYD, FLOYD" for a good five minutes or so afterwards.

I noticed Crankberry ignored this thread on his troll through the forum.

Of course, as Crankberry hates all boxers and is a curmugeon to boot, there would be nothing he could actually say on a thread that starts out as "List your favourite..." unless is was "List your favourite haemmorhoid cream".

I quite enoyed the Liston fights...

The second Johannsen fight was my favourite although the Chuvalo and Cooper fight were great as well.

Archie Moore and Hurricane Jackson II were Patterson's best fights.

From there he went downhill as Cus D'Amato refused to let Patterson fight his top contenders (Machen and Folley) .

Well, that was very deep and interesting, Crank.

My favourite is Floyd's title defence against Brian London. I liked the one against Tom McNeely as well. Against London he was always on the move, using the ring & his jab. I think he would have fared much better as a whole had he used this style more often. Certainly against the big punchers like Johannson & Liston. Usually he would get into a punch up, taking more punches than was needed. Against McNeely, who he had down 11 times, you could see how fast his combinations were. The Quarry fights were good too. He definitely won the first one, & was robbed against Ellis. The Chuvalo, Moore & Johannson fights were classics. Too bad he wasn't just a little bigger. He might have given Liston & Ali a run for their money.

His speed against Mc Neely was awesome.

He also just completly outclassed and beat to the punch a still dangerous Cooper in 1966.

I think Patterson at times felt he needed to prove himself against punchers like Liston and Ingo. Especially in the rematches. His corner most likely wanted him to box and move in the rematches, but instead pride stepped in and he just wanted to be the better man...not the smarter fighter.
