George Foreman Vs Earnie Shavers 1976

Ok guys here is another hypothetical....

Lets say that these two should have met in late 1976, Foreman chasing his title, and Earnie working his way atop of the journeyman and contender stack.

Who do you see winning and how do you imagine this battle of the 1970s power punches play out.

I see Foreman winning, with his hard jab, that improved as the 1970s went on. Sure Shavers lands the right and even wobbles Foreman, I just imagine big George being the bully and winning an exciting ten rounder that has moments of danger for both men.

...i'd pick foreman...but no matter which one, there's no way this would go ten rounds....

Foreman by early rounds KO. Shavers might well shake him up or score a knockdown, but Foreman has a better chin and is all round just better. Could be a fantastic war though

George had a great chin...and would KO Shavers early and in brutal fashion

Probably the two hardest punchers of all time going to head. It certainly would have been exciting.
The fights that each had with Lyle is important to keep in mind.
Shavers dropped Lyle but couldn't put him away and was knocked out himself.
Foreman was knocked down a couple of times by Lyle but managed to survive and knockout Lyle.

A Shavers-Foreman fight could be similar.

Shavers may hurt and Foreman and come close to knocking Foreman out. However, Foreman would probably survive and kncokout Shavers in 4 or 5 rounds.

Shavers probably was an even harder puncher than Foreman. However Foreman had the better chin and probably most importantly was much better at finishing off a hurt opponent.

I would certainly give Shavers a chance. However, the chances are that Foreman wins by knockout. Would have been great to see.

This would be alot like the Foreman-Lyle fight, in my mind, although Shavers didn't quite have the size of Lyle or the skill...if Shavers was to have a genuine chance at all it would have to be somewhere inside of 5 rounds, as most of his greatest wins happened inside that span of time, and because he had probabl less stamina than George at that time, and a weaker chin.

I see Shavers going down, then George, then Shavers, then Shavers...then the KO, Foreman wins by KO in the 6th.
