our only true world champion, Vic Darchinyan is bruttaly knocked out by Fillipino Donaire,

our no2 P4P fighter Anthony Mundine losses vision in one of his eyes, may never fight again (has anyone heard anything new on this)

our up and coming star Michael Katsidis, despite winning has his face shredded. likley to be out of action till the new year.


so what do we have to look forward to in the rest of this year and the beginning of the next?

Sam soliman and Bika on the contender, could be good for the both of them.

top prospect robert medley has a fight for the IBO welterweight title, which is great.

billy did is apparently only one win away from a shot at gold.

danny green is no2 in IBF rankings and apparently mandatory for the IBO title held by antonio tarver. woods is busy, and i doubt antonio would come to aus to fight danny.
(wouldnt it be great if we could get either of them over here, on say...A SATURDAY NIGHT!, im so sick of this wednesday night bullshit!)
he needs a stay busy fight, if that offer is still there from glen kelly i say take it

Mundine was released from hospital, doctors say they only just found out he wont lose the eye, but will be weeks/months before they know full extent of damage so expect him till be out probably until mid next year if ever

Darchinyan got taught a lesson but has a fight coming up soon in Sydney for an IBO Title at Super Flyweight

You forgot to mention Lovemore lost his title, but there was a rematch clause and he thinks its "close to being signed" apparently to be held in Vegas. Malignaggi's team confirms there is a rematch clause but says there is no interest for the rematch in USA

Briggs is fighting on a heavy weight undercard in i think October at Madison Square Garden...

It is a bitter sweet year but if everything goes well for Aussie boxers i rekon 2008 could be a big year for us. Hopefully Sammy and Bika perform well on the contender could land them some big fights over there... Praying Mundines eye comes good, has a tune up fight then hopefully a crack at the winner of Calzaghe/Kessler (not saying he would win but a fight i would love to watch and he does have a big chance) And hopefully Briggs fight someone good in October wins and they gets another shot at a title

oh yeah, forgot about that, cant really see it going any other way a second time round, but lovemore hasnt really got nothin to lose at this stage of his career so what the hell

I think rematch clauses are totally bogus. If you get beat you go back into the mix. Rematch clauses should be outlawed accross all organisations.

True he has nothing to lose unless he could get another title from a different organisation with a champ who isnt as talented as Paulie.

Lovemore always comes into the fight fit as anything he has the best body in the sport hands down lol but his boxing skills need a tune up, but at 35 can he improve?

HE needs a trainer like Freddie Roach or Floyd Mayweather if he wants another title...

It's funny, I've gone from being close to giving up on Danny Green, but at the moment, if anything he is our most exciting prospect. He would be a decent chance of beating any of the champions at LHW, but he needs to have a big fight soon. He lost his best opportunities to be a legit world champ (twice vs Beyer), it would be great if he could do it now.

Mundine is a phenomenal talent, and it is painful to see him out of action due to such a stupid thing. I would love to see him fight the winner of Calzaghe-Kessler. He's mentioned moving to 160lb, where I think he would beat both Taylor and Wright (although I don't think he'll ever get those fights). If Mundine never has a world title outright (rather than the WBA 'regular' title) he will have been a huge letdown in my book.

Why all the doom and gloom? So Darchinian got knocked out. Most of the great champions have been KOed at one time or other, sometimes several times. Very few men go through their careers unbeaten. He can come back.

Katsidis won a fight despite being cut badly. This is more a sign of courage than anything else. It is only since the AIDS panic of the 1980s that this has become an issue. Apart from a false positive test on Tommy Morrison and some fighters (such as Esteban de Jesus) getting HIV from sharing needles in their decline this has not come to mean anything. I have been in Rugby League games in my youth when players carried on playing in spite of worse cuts than Katsidis had. He is still unbeaten and still WBO interim lightweight champ.

Mundine has an eye injury. From recent reports it is not as bad as originally thought. Aaron Pryor won a fight in 1990 when legally blind. Johnny Famechon was so short-sighted he could not see his opponent in the opposite corner (Legra's face pulling between rounds was useless).

Between Jimmy Carruthers and Lionel Rose Australia went for more than a decade without a World Champion. Empire titles were regarded as a great achievement. The world did not end.

The IBO doesn't have mandatories.

Lenny Zappavigna looked like a he had a bit of class in the amateurs, havent seen much since he turned pro, how does he look so far?

Some people out there have already written Vic. Every chmapion around at the moment except for Mayweather has lost or been ko. Manny Pacquio who many think is pound 4 pound no 1 was knocked out as a flyweight, Barrera has been down , De la Hoya, go through the list. Remember one thing - if Vic comes out to box there is no one in his division that can come close to him, he will punish you for 5 to 6 rounds and sooner or later you will get caught. No one knew sweet F A about Kostya except true boxing fans, after he was upset and knocked out by Vince Phillips he caught the heart of our nation.
I know one thing I wouldnt want to face Vic after his last loss, in his next fight or ten fights from now.
