Herbie Hide made EU mandatory

Herbie's been made mandatory challenger for fake European champion (EU not the proper EBU) Giacobbe Fragomeni.

Frago, of course, gave Haye a thrilling fight before looking old and knackered in outpointing Rossito.

Anyway, progress for Hide. If he can knock him out he'll get some recognition.

Sounds like a good fight to me. However maybe Herbie will struggle if he does not remove Fragomeni within the first 4 rounds, after all he aint getting any younger. Fragomeni recently struggled to outpoint Vincenzo Rossitto over 12 so that suggests to me he is a tough man but after a long amateur career maybe won't make quite as big an impact on the pro game.

And just what is the deal with this silly EU belt? Am i right in thinking it has something to do with the EBU title proper?

I suppose it's to the real European title what the English title is to the British.

Correct it is only available to fighters inside the EU and it leads to a full European title shot . I'm normally against all these bullshit titles but I kind of like the EU title . It's often useful for young fighters to build them up and use as a stepping stone to the full thing .

An External European Union belt has come about recently too for all the European countries outside the EU . I'm not so much of a fan of that one , it seems to be mainly a Ukranian belt at the moment anyway .

Great link, does anyone remember the quality interview with allegedly allegedly after the fight? I think he basically sacked Herbie live on air by saying that all he cares about is saving money and his attiude wasn't right, tat travelling to London from Norwich and back every day wasn't ideal preparation etc. Made me chuckle.

I've never seen Fragomeni, can anyone fill me in on what he's like and how he will deal with Hide?

I read an article where Hide's promoter said "When Herbie signed with arena I promised him a title match within the first year. Now he is with us for half a year and already fighting for a belt!"

Do you think this is the title match Hide was expecting?

Watching that clip again after a few years i think Herbert actually won round 1 as Klitschko looked a bit stiff and tentative with the Hide's wild swings. Round 2 of course was a different matter.

Fragomeni is a tough come foward boxer, likes to get close to his opponent and throw hooks. He took some big shots off of Haye early on without folding, even when he was shook up, he managed to smother Haye's follow ups. In the ninth he suddenly fell apart from a good shot, and Hayes follow up finished him. He wasn't knocked out, just couldn't take anymore.

Its going to be an interesting fight with Hide, if Fragomeni shows the same chin as he did against Haye, then he might be able to take Hide to the later rounds and things may start going Fragi's way.
Hide has the power to take any cruiser in the world out with 1 shot , but his chin is also his weak point.
One thing Fragomeni is rated 6th in by the WBC, much to high, but it will look good for Hide if he wins.

I thought Fragomeni-Rossitto was for the full Euro title, David Haye having vacated?

Gurov v Cantatore was for the full Euro title

Cantatore, Sorry.

So, is Hide the mandatory EBU challenger, or does Fragomeni hold both belts? I thought you had to vacate the EU if you won the EBU.

I'm going to pick frago by KO! Herbie will get hit in this fight and we all know what that means.

Cantatore beat Gurov? Was this a robbery, as I can't see Gurov losing such a fight.

Hide is the mandatory for Fragomenni's EU belt.

Hide is the mandatory for Fragomenni's EU belt.
So Fragomeni holds both? I thought this wasn't allowed.

Have you been smoking something???

Fragomeni holds the EU title
Cantatore holds the EBU title

Cantatore holds the EBU belt after he beat Alexander Gurov on a MD, Cantatore have Jean Marc Monrose as mandatory challenger

Fragomeni only has the EU belt, a title he won by beating Vincenzo Rossitto on points a coule of weeks ago.

Right!

Sorry for the confusion. It was the Fragomeni fight a few weeks ago which I was thinking of - I thought it was for the EBU title. Obviously not.

I'd pick Hide to beat him.

Hide is so unreliable, knock out or be knocked out must be hit motto. Hide has shown he still has the power this year but look at the level of opposition, it has been very poor.

Fragomeni is one tough man and I can't see him being fazed by Herbie. He will take his lumps and hit back, sooner or later Hide get's clocked again. Good night Dancing Destroyer!

And Fragomeni isn't even a puncher!!! But he doesn't have to be in this one does he.

Why do we all a fascination for Herbie Hide? Is it the car wreck factor (ie watching his career is like looking at a car crash), or that he could have been a very good cruiser?

No, it's because he is bloody insane!

I think its not just Hide's chin that has let him down , but he just doesn't like to be hit (not such a bad thing you'd think), but when someone does connect, its like he goes into shock.
He seems to panic and this wears himself out more than some of the punches.

The man with arguably a better name than Cengiz Koc! (especially when you hear Holdsworth pronouncing his name in one of his earlier fights!). I think old Fragomeni will KO Hide. He is durable, can't punch (but then he doesn't have to).

Sorry to disappoint you, but Koc in this case is pronounced "Kotch"
