Amir Khan's Angry Young Men

Watched this tonight. Not dissimlar to Bad Lad's Army or something like that.
Some of these kids have had a hard time and not sure I could take being advised on how to live my life by a 20 year old with a Jacob Mueller watch.
What I find truly distasteful is how the show is trying to push religion or more specifically Islam on these youngsters.
Humanity should be learning to live without these ancient myths, not to mention an intolerant, restrictive faith. Unbelievable.

I thought the program was OK
As for taking advice from someone who wears a Jacob watch -i don't see a problem with that.Clearly he has worked hard to get that level of success!!
Not surprised to see paranoid islamophobes complaining!!

They are not pushing islam religion on these youngsters, however religion is important to avoid doing bad thing in life.
Jacob? I don't have a problem with it.. You don't need to be jealous.
Anyway, you only seen part 1.. more to come next week. I've enjoyed watching the show. Amir came across well and given some good advice, and he clearly had those boys' best at heart!

Nonsense religion is an oppressive, backward, primitive pseudo science and pseudo morality and is most definitely NOT important to "avoid doing bad things in life".
Most of the most peaceful open-minded people I know are atheist humanists. Religion provides a twisted morality.

I didn’t see anything wrong with the programme.
Take out the Amir Khan PLC cynicism it was a well meaning exercise in trying to break the downward cycle that led these lads to their situation. It also revealed that Derek character to have some deep rooted mental issues that may or may not be able to be resolved. Khan is a successful 20 year old who is more on the level with them than some articulate intellectual who they will never be able to relate to.

I just wonder if these same people were brought up in religions, that they later rejected, but where their morals were already instilled.
I am not a religious person by any means, but I was brought up a catholic. I am sure, to a certain extent, that upbringing instilled a set of morals and principles I have to this day. I think that I am intelligent and perceptive enough to acknowledge that the same morals are universal without blindly following a particular faith.
However, increasingly we have a culture that believes in little of any substance and leads youngsters into pissing their lives away and not giving a fvck about the consequences for anyone let alone themselves.
I see religion as a spirtual guidebook and moral compass that has value as long as you do not fall for the whole shaboozle hook, line and sinker.

After seeing the first show, i can't see that they'll go away and become better people.
So basically, you're teaching some yobs how to knock people out.

Bit of a sweeping statement that after just one show. How many times do we hear of boxers saying that they were close to, or going, off the rails until they took up boxing and it installed some direction etc. in their lives?
At the end of the day it is a TV show and the editors are always going to show these lads in the worst possible light to start off with (Leeds football hooligan, just released from prison blah blah) only for them to be shown as reformed angels by the end.
Oh and for the record I think all religion is bollocks!

I thought the same thing, especially as they still went out drinking alcohol & then they were all drunk back at the place they were al living in.
Wonder what's going to happen if they ever spar each other or Amir, for that matter? Can't see them retaining their composure, being disciplined etc.
Crunch time will come after the last show, when the narrator should tell us what each guy is up to now!

"islamophobes" is a word with a very interesting history...the islamists adopted it from those who started the trendy "homophobes" term!! strange bedfellows, those islamists and homosexuals!!

islamists don't use the term islamophobes.
They just use "infidel" term for everyone else

Nah mate it was on at 11.05pm.
It wasn't the best programme by far and I flicked between that and Bouncer's/Crimefighter's UK on ITV.
I will probably see the series through but it was predictable.

I can see how tempting it is to foist religion upon the underclass of society
Terry, as for Carpet Bombing et al, these are just more sophisticated methods of doing what humanity has always done well, fight!
Genghis Khan killed an estimated 10,000,000 chinese with nothing more sophisticated than primitive cannons, arrows and swords. So let's not be too harsh on our society.
The truth is, in many ways we live in a far more civilised society than ever. Open warfare is actively frowned upon and harder to justify than before, though of course it still happens, as with America's empire securing efforts in Iraq recently.
The idea that Morality is provided by religion is a complete nonsense, do you think that the laws of the Talmud, Koran and Old Testament were written in a vacuum? They were written to represent the morals of the time, which pre-existed. In those days religion WAS science, and living outside of religious scripture was highly dangerous, and therefore, very rare.
It's been clearly proven that much of our moral codes are in large part inbuilt. For instance, people find it hard and unpleasant to kill one another, and even very young children know that it is wrong to steal. (See Robert Winston's excellent programme on this.)
If you look at the history of warfare, you will note that man has devised better and betters ways of killing from long range, and there are powerful psychological reasons for this. It takes a brutal rage to stick a sword into someone's gut, but little other than calm implacable concentration to push a small button which launches a missle at a target 5 miles away in a bunker. The quest for long range weapons is also the quest for guilt-free and unemotional conquest.
As for this programme, I think Khan should be concentrating on his career especially after what happened last time out, rather than making well intentioned but by the sounds of it, ill advised programmes that set out to solve a problem that is taxing the best brains in the country, let alone Amir Khan.
I do worry sometimes and wonder if in losing religion we have a society which is falling apart at the seams, but I am not prepared to believe that going back in time hundreds and thousands of years to medieval, bronze age, or even earlier beliefs is the answer.

i had the abi titmuss programme on so i missed the first 15 minutes of it.
i was also wondering across to the crimefighters after about 10 minutes of the khan thing.
some of it was good though. the bit where their trying to talk the guy round and he's having none of it.
khan's family are a good influence on amir, as opposed to naz's family who turned out to be a bad one i think. particularly the brothers anyway.

Religion is also important it would seem in preventing you from writing sentences in correct English.
Which religion might you be referring to exactly? As far as I can see, all the world's major religions have been at the heart of terrible atrocities.

Haven't heard of the demise of dear, dear Windsie so presume he's fine. Yes, Don Sinden makes a fleeting appearance as the (surprise, surprise) upper class police chief.
I am an 80s sitcom bore...'Never the Twain' was class, particularly the half-baked general dogsbody 'Ringo'.

Cultural conquest is no longer achieved through warfare, it is achieved through the media, marketing, and global corporations pushing their products. Warfare is a last resort used when these methods fail.
However many Chinese Khan killed, he killed fecking loads of them.
The fact that we seem to be getting more violent crime, is an indicator that there are big problems in our society.
I was listening to the radio today, and apparently, the major cities in the UK are all following the same patter. The inner cities are becoming inhabited by the very rich and the very poor, the rich in big fat houses and gated communities, and the poor in prison like housing estates.
Meanwhile, all the middle classes are moving out to the suburbs where it is quieter and more homogenous.
This is a recipe for disaster. Back when the majority of people lived in council houses and only a few very rich people owned property, and people lived in the same areas for generations, we didn't have these problems, as people felt they had ownership over their area, and cared about it.
The only religion people worship now is the almighty mammon, wealth and personal gain are all that is driving our society, and on a larger scale our governments. The drive to be rich, powerful and influential lies at the heart of all of our problems.
Thatcher....you bitch!

Like beheading charity workers, flying planes into buildings, setting fire to Scottish airports, killing your wife/daughter-in-law because she wants to divorce, racist murders in the American south (still go on today in Bible Belt towns), invading nations because "god" told you so... those sort of "bad things"???

Actually losing religion is hurting society becaues it leaves a moral vacuum. We have no moral code. Whats more teachers aren't even aloud to teach ethics or the difference between right and wrong in case it offends some sensitive sorts.
Yes the best people may have great morals and ethics without religion, but the majority do not. The majority care less about their fellow man than ever and their goal in life are based around shallow materialism.
This is transcendent throughout our society from the self-serving politicians, to the mysoginist rappers, to the women who use men for money, to the parents who don't bother to teach the difference between right and wrong to the low life criminals.
The beauty of religion is it makes immoral selfish twats actually be moral and giving occasinally on the hope of getting into heavens. Bring back religous brain washing

And I thought the show was shite. Khan is a nice kid and a very decent pro boxer but he's not suited to this kinda show. He looked very "hands off" with the yobs to me and the design of the show was flawed (why didn't they take them to a boxing camp where there is no beer to guzzle and do nothing but training boxing and see the benifits of self-respect).
And I think we had yet another
Khan is not the super-star Warren thinks he is. He's not a big ticket seller, the poor kid gets booed a lot, and he is clearly a heavily protected fighter. First we had the BIG FIGHT LIVE changing it's name to "AMIR KHAN FIGHT LIVE" (was it ever Eubank Fight Live or Benn Fight Live - no) now we had Channel 4 stating "Amir Khan is a boxing sensation!!!!!!!!!!!"
Er, no. And unless he dumps Oliver Harrison and learns to move his head he never will be.

TOTAL rubbish! Humans DO have a moral code because natural selection has favoured behaviours where human co-operate and have compassion. We’ve had these behaviours for 10,000s of years – whereas the “great” 3 monolith religions have existed for less than 2,500 years.
And let’s look at the great “moral” guidance these awful bronze age books give us. How about infanticide (Abraham), or having sex with young girls (Moses, Mohammad), racism (Jesus) or genocide (Yawah – god)….
