a bit of a forgotten great of brit boxing. no one mentions him when the best of recent british comes up. i know he was from zambia but what the hell...
does anyone know details of his death?

Wasn't it Parkinsons? I know he was pretty destitute

Very sad tale.

Lotte was a terrific fighter who overcame real hardship.

Good skills and tremendously strong, with a great shot in either hand.

Was past his prime when he got his title shot, but had some memorable victories in England. The win over Sibson and the circumstances surrounding it is the stuff of legend.

Was part of one of the greatest stables in British boxing history (George Francis stable).

A great physical specimen, Lotte was a real handful for the great John Conteh in sparring.

Lotte would have give todays Light Heavys nightmares.

He would have slaugtered the likes of Clinton Woods, and would have had too much for the 175 version of Hopkins.

They were great days in British boxing. Particularly for London Boxing.

I long for their return.

Lotte fought Sibbo at 12 stone. I think he would have given todays 168´s a real hard fight, simply beacuse he was so big and strong at the weight.

Fought in a golden era for light-heavies. Licked Sibbo AND Marvin Johnson in the space of three weeks. It's people like him who belong in the Hall of Fame - the unheralded, unlucky ones.

Boxing is virtually dead in London these days. So few fighters, not enough successful gyms, just a few amateur clubs with pedigree, and not much else.

Very sad, but it's not surprising when there's so few gyms to go to.

I wish the government would sponsor a boxing gym in every deprived inner city area, with a health club attached to it, rather than private enterprise building big fancy and very expensive gyms which people cannot afford.

Boxing is virtually dead in London these days. So few fighters, not enough successful gyms, just a few amateur clubs with pedigree, and not much else.

An easier way might be to bring it back in Youth Clubs. Hell most of em have the space, and there are loads of ABA coaches out there who could attach themselves to a YC

It may be a positive channel for the enegy, anger and agression of the so called forgotten Youth.

I would even put money into it If a local Youth Club wanted to go that way and offer boxing to boys and young men.

Lotte was some fighter with Conteh you were never sure who the champ was of the spars I saw he never came second. I think he was Georges favorite. wrong time for Lotte shame.

Sibbo shedded Leicester manager Carl Gunns and joined the Sam Burns London camp and re-invented himself with better training and sparring.
Eleven months later, he won the British middleweight title in a classic with Frankie Lucas.

Sibbos people were looking for an opponent.

They enquired of Francis and he offered them Mwale, telling them that Lotte was a big Middle and hadnt been training so would have to fight at 12stone

Duff came to look at Lotte, at the Duke of Wellington in Highgate and beforehand Francis filled Lotte up with Water and put him on the scale while Duff was watching and the needle went round to 13stone

Duff went away thinking he had secured an easy night for Tony and that Lotte would be out of shape and drained

In the event Lotte sparked tony in the first then had to get out of Leicester with Francis pretty sharpish as Tonys fans wanted blood.

Gunns still trained Tony the only thing that changed was management Im sure Think he went with Fred for a bit.
