Anyone know why Manuel Medina has been shafted out of a shot of the title. Didn't he beat Kevin Kelley in an eliminator fight not so long ago.

Now it appears that Mozonke Fana is defending his title against Javier Alvarez (the man who beat Michael Gomez). Now, Manuel Medina beat Alvarez by a shut out decision (and it was a clinical boxing lesson). How does Alvarez warrant a title shot.

It isn't a mandatory, but the Fana vs Alvarez winner must face the winner of Baloyi and St Clair.... So what was the point of calling Medina vs Kelley an eliminator?

Well Medina did face Baloyi since then in another eliminator and it ended in a TD draw after a headbutt . By right Medina should fight Baloyi again in that eliminator but instead they've let St Clair and Baloyi go through .

Unless Medina refused a rematch it does indeed seem he got shafted .

Would like Medina to fight for the IBF title, it would make me feel young again. Medina seems to have been fighting for the IBF title since I was a wee lad.

EDIT: Just checked his record and he won a unanimous decision over Troy Dorsey for the IBF Feather title in 1991 when I was a fresh faced 18 year old. Incredible. What a career he's had.

Indeed my old chum, arguably one of the greatest fighters of the 1990's, and into the new century.... a real "people's" fighter and not protected or easy-managed at all, he has fought more world-class Feather/Super-Feather of the past 15 years than anyone, the names on his record makes for an incredible list.

Also, funny how Sugar Ray gets praised for being 5-time Middleweight champ, yet Medina (only fractions of the title I know) seems cursed by "yeah, but he kept losing them in the first place".

Medina was a very good fighter but certainly not a great one. No shame in that.

The old boy certainly has his place in boxing history IF he ever does hang up the gloves.

Don't get me wrong, PN - I do agree with you... However, the Tapia fight was very close (majority seem to think Medina won) - and Manuel gave Scott Harrison a boxing lesson in fight one.

i like medina. he was very good in harrison 1. but if you get ko'd by derrick gainer and lose to paul ingle you give up any pretentions to greatness. however, he is a credit to our sport and that counts big in my book. not afraid of anyone.

I hope above all else Medina has made a big fat pile of cash

I agree, don't think Medina can be considered a true great - but he's hall of fame bound.

Which really does make the Hall of Fame a bit rediculous - cause in other sports greatness is like the level BELOW Hall of Fame.... You can be a great, but not good enough for the Hall of Fame.

he was a nightmare for scotty even in that rematch really.
