Boxing commentary that made you laugh out loud

I was going thru some old DVD's today and i happened upon Barrera Vs Tapia recorded from the BBC
Obviously Tapia has that "Mi vida loca" tattoo on him and Jim Neilly says at one point
"Mi vida loca, My crazy life, and isnt that just true about him?" and laughs to himself, like he's remembering something
I then had an image of this man
Doing lines of cocaine with Johnny Tapia and a bunch of under-age prostitutes in some dodgy hotel room in the ghetto's of San Antonio
The thought of which made me giggle so much i had to excuse myself
so there u go!

That's the same commentary that featured that classic example of (not) doing proper background research.... "And as his tribute to Tapia you'll see that Barrera has the name "Tapia" embroidered on the back of the waistband of his shorts.... that's how much he admires his opponent". Reality: It's there becuase "Tapia" is Barrera's mother's family name....(though I understand he does like Johnny)
I'm not sure if it was that fight or another one involving a Mexican fighter who was introduced by Buffer as being from "Cuidad Mejico" only for the commentator to observe later in the fight that the guy was from the town of Cuidad in Mexico....

Cuidad is Spanish for city so boxer must have been from Mexico City.
As far as anyone knows the permatanned one has NEVER put a foot wrong.
I'd produce a list of Duke's gaffes but rather than making me laugh i usually find myself doubletaking the tv then answering my girlfriends questions as to what he meant/was trying to say.

Yep, I know that! My point was that the commentator clearly didn't know it and specificlaly said "The town of Cuidad in Mexico...".

Harry Carpenter during Tyson vs Bruno I.
Just as Tyson is stunned by Bruno in the 1st.
"Get in there Frank!!!!"
Classic.

Anything from Duke McKenzie, especially when he is saying why a fighter is being unsuccessful, followed by said fighter sparking out his opponent only for Duke to go onto to say something along the lines of, 'as I was about to say, if he does ...(what said fighter has just done)... he would have more success.'
On the subject of commentary - why do commentators these days feel the need to growl? TalkSport are the worst for this, although Adam Smith is getting there.

A different sport, but my all time favourite is from the late great David Coleman commentating on Cuban athlete Carlos Juantorena.
"And on the back straight Juantorena opens his legs and shows his class."
An absolute pearl.

Not boxing but of course this is the greatest statement ever broadcast on TV
When Alexander of Macedonia was 33 he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer - Bristow is only 27! ...
poetry, the man is a natural treasure
he also reminds me of Tom Bombadil, for some reason

David is not "late." he is still living in Chalfont St Giles (or Peters, I forget). Also he never said this, even though it is often attributed to him as a Colemanballs example. The qoute came from Ron Pickering, who is no longer with us, his co-commentator with the BBC at the time. Pickering, incidentally, did much to assist in the development of Daley Thompson as an athlete. One of Coleman's better ones was when he referred to a Spanish athlete as "the little Spaniel."

Bring back Jim Neilly!
"He lost controversially but worthily"
"He was looking world class until he was knocked out in the first round"
"What a shame somebody has to lose this fight, but somebody will have to lose it, unless the referee calls it a draw, and he really won't want to do that unless he can't pick a winner"

I think it was actually Alan Minter who said that.
