" fighters were never same after fighting him"

This is a big boxing cliche, but like many others there is some truth to it. What fighters do you all believe ruined some of their opponents career from the beatings they administered in the ring?
The best recent example i can think of is Julio Cesar Chavez.

Duran ruined Davey Moore. I'm sure he ruined some of his Lightweight opponents careers. DeJesus never did anything again after the Duran trilogy, whether that was because of Duran or because of age I don't know, but Duran could have killed him in the third fight.

I've always thought Bennie Briscoe left most of his opponents with a permanent "shift of skills" Joe Frazier seemed to leave an impression as well. I think I've heard it said about Rocky Marciano. Based on percentages I think you could include Duran at his lighter weights. Greb comes to mind as well. Barbados Joe Walcott maybe.

The fists of Pipino Cuevas wrecked a few careers.

Interesting, I didn't know that about DeJesus.
And yeah, I've seen the Bizzaro fight, that was another brutal KO. I think I remember reading that he was hospitalized after that fight.

I dont remember if Bizarro went to the hospital , but Ray Lampkin was in one for a little while after fighting Duran.
Most guys who fought Fritzie Zivic probably had a new outlook afterwards.

The low blows against Buchanan, the thumbing of Moore, the comments about sending Lampkin to the graveyard, when he was badly hurt, are just some of the reasons I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Tommy Hearns and the way he utterly annihilated Cholo.

It technically wasn't a stoppage, however. Inept Walter Schmidt actually counted to 10 to Lou's motionless body and not allowing his seconds to jump in.

He was an arrogant dude no doubt.
He was training in the Fuller park gym right before he fought Jeff Lanas in Chicago.
He was half assed sparring in the ring with I believe Juan Nazzario who also was gonna fight here.
I was hittin the speed bag at the same time and at the end of the round he gave me his freakin Manson eyes for contiuing to hit the bag during the minute break.
I gave it right back and we woofed at each other, him in Spanish I guess.

Yeah, its funny expug, that Manson look. There was actually a biography of Manson on the biography channel the other night, and they showed a black and white picture of Manson and he looked 100% like Duran.

There have been lots of top fighters who could be savages in the ring and nice guys on the outside, Dempsey, Tyson in the D'Amato days before he went nuts, Hagler, McGuigan, some might even say Greb.

Nice guys don't molest 11-year-old girls.
.....unless of course they were 9 years old themselves when the unthinkable act took place.

Its funny how at that time when he would balloon between fights , from the neck up he was Chuck Manson but from the neck down it was Ralph Kramden.
He didnt look intimidating but he was still skillfull as hell when he put his mind to it.
Nazario was kickin his ass in the gym.
I thought Lanas should have gotten the nod when they fought.
At least I thought so when I saw them fight at the Ampitheatre.
Of Course Roberto turned around and beat Barkley a little after.

I have heard it said about Rocky Marciano, in relation to his 2nd fight with LaStarza, most famously mentioned in Leibling's 'The Sweet Science'.
But Marciano's style, tactics, relentless bombardment and brutallity, easily make him a worthy contender for the quote.

Great story. Duran is Duran. Nice guys finish last. Lanas nearly beat him, of course, and Duran came over to the UK in the same year (1988) and looked awful in an exhibition with the likes of Errol Christie and Michael Harris (Harris didn't wear a headguard, which upset a more paternal Duran and he pointedly clocked Harris with a big right).
Who would have thought Duran would be world champ again a year later!

It tends to be heavy punchers who don't always find that one shot KO. Guys who go to the body a lot also seem to feature.
Duran is a definite. I'd also go with Hagler. His ability to absorb punishment meant he could really take opponents to the brink. Mugabi was never the same. Hearns seemed to lose his punch resistance. Sibson was never quite the same either.

We don't know if Mike is guilty of moleting an 11 year old girl, just like we don't know if he did actually rape Desiree Washington.
Not making excuses by any means, just pointing out a fact.

I'm surprised Duran was working out at Fuller Park. Guy's outside Chicago might not know, but it's a high crime area you don't want to visit after dark. Great facilities but once outside, doesn't matter how tough you are, you could get capped by a 15 yr old gangbanger.

I was surprised to see him there also.
The neighborhood is bad.
He really had no entourage with him at all either.
He probably went over to Windy City Gym also at some point while he was here.
That neighborhood isnt exactly Beverly Hills either.
I never got any grief at Fuller coming and going.
I trained during the day however.
I never let the sun set on my ass over there.

You might not know if Tyson raped Desiree Washington, but the jury and all the courts of appeal did not have a reasonable doubt.

He was convicted of it in a court of law. What more evidence do you want?
You have not pointed out a fact.

The thing about the Moore thumbing is, Davey tried to knock out Duran after the bell to end the first; a real cheap shot.
Game on.
