I'm trying to find out info on Ray "Windmill" White. He was a Light heavyweight back in the 70's. Is he still alive? Are there any fights with him on anywhere? He was also on Johnny Carson at one time? :D

Ray 'Windmill' White was hysterical and not a bad fighter at that. He had every kind of a crazy punch in his bag of tricks (the behind the back punch, the windmill punch) as well as being a complete con-man all in the name of fun. I believe he is still kicking, having seen an interview by Pete Ehrmann on him in Ring magazine a year or two ago.

Not sure how to do this but I'll try. Have you ever seen him fight? Do you know buy any chance what issue it was? I'm trying to find some old fights of him, because I heard the same thing you said about him. Thanks for the info.

When Windmill got knocked down, sometimes he'd lie flat on his back and act as if he was out cold, and then leap up at about eight and be ready to fight. One time his "flat on his back" routine was so convincing the referee stopped the fight and gave his opponent a kayo. He jumped up and raised hell.He ws obviously not hurt, but the ref had already made his decision. If Ring or the other magazines would ever put out an index on a CD rom it would make it so much easier to research fighters and events like this. As it is, I don't know how to help you, and it's frustrating.

I've actually started a spreadsheet on features relating to Heavyweight form late 60s/70s..........e.g Jeff Merritt, Ron Stander, Greg Page etc etc...

This way, I can just scroll down and BINGO, it's there.

Phil

ps

Hopefully, I can then find that article on Jumbo Cummings that is being waited for........(I know who you are - you WILL receive it!)

Turtle, I saw the Windmill fight 4 times. It's funny, I thought it was more than that, however, I saw him decision Roby Harris, Terry Lee, Orlando DeLaFuente and lose in a close decision for the NABF title to Jimmy Dupree. Sorry, no tapes on him. This was the pre-VCR era.

I SAW HIM FIGHT ON TV AGAINST COOKIE WALLACE. HE HAD A DOUBLE JAB WHICH CONSISTED IN JABBING WITH BOTH HANDS AT THE SAME TIME. I REMEMBER THAT HE WAS A CARPENTER BY TRADE AND WAS A FAIRLY POPULAR CLUB FIGHTER IN CALIFORNIA -GOOD PRESS ALL THE TIME- HE HELD HIS OWN WITH SOME PRETTY GOOD FIGHTERS BUT WAS NOT RATED OR CLOSE TO IT....

Sorry, It was a message to "overhand right".

I said I would scan him an article on Jumbo Cummings but haven't done so as I haven't been able to find the article!

Hence...........starting a spreadsheet.
