Mitchell - Johanneson mandated

Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Kevin Mitchell looks set for a chance to win the British title.
The undefeated 22-year-old has been nominated to face current champion Carl Johanneson before the end of January.
Purse bids have been called for the fight.
Unbeaten in 24, Mitchell also holds the IBF and WBO Intercontinental titles at 130 pounds and is widely regarded as one of the best talents in the country.
He was an ABA champion at just 18, and has blazed a formidable trail since turning professional.
Johanneson turned in an impressive display to widely out-point Ricky Burns earlier this year, but has since lost to Leva Kirakosyan.
It was the repeat of a 2004 reverse.
Both defeats were by stoppage, the second in a challenge for the European title.
The 29-year-old, 26-3, began his career in America before returning to his native Yorkshire.
Meanwhile Mitchell is set to fight at the Nottingham Arena on October 6.
Time for Kevin to step up yet???? I feckin hope so cuz this would be a cracker

Johansson would certainly test the chin of Mitchell, if it survives then I think Kevin will himself be too powerful.

good scrap this, hope it happens. Whether Warren bids for this fight or not for Mitchell will tell us a lot about his confidence in him.

I'd pick Johanneson, its definately a fight I'd like to see. Will Frank and his trainer let him off the leash though???
This reminds me abit of a Enzo-Haye fight at 9 stone 4, I doubt think the judges will be needed whichever way it goes

People moan about Khan not stepping but Mitchells step up has been a long time coming. His defense is wide open so he needs a decent chin. This could be a decent domestic war that would be pretty entertaining while it lasted

Exactly, when Mitchell fights someone who can hit like Kirakosyan then we can make a comparison as to who has the better chin.
And due to that it's hard to pick a winner, you'd think they both have the power to hurt each other. I'd maybe slightly favour Mitchell as I think we've seen how far Carl can go but like Fatton said, whether or not SN take this fight should tell us a bit about how far they think Kevin can go

Carl needs to get his head right , and sort out a proper training set up before even thinking about going ahead with this fight.
His training for the bout against Kirakosyan was awful, the Ingles did what they could, but they were never given enough time to get him in the right condition.

I'm reserving my judgement til someone like Carl has clipped him, but its right what you're saying he has come thru some decent punches (from small punchers)

Anyone know the story behind Carl's training for his last fight? Something was clearly amiss and I heard he didn't train with the Ingles until just days before the fight. They looked tight as can be before, during and after the Burns fight so I have always wondered what went on. Anyone?

No it doesn't. Why do you try to argue about something that you clearly have little understanding of?
Carl was walking through flush shots easily when he was fighting Burns, Feintola, Corcaran and other non punchers but the same punches from Kirakosyan had him all over the place.
When Mitchell fights a serious puncher of the level of Kirakosyan and walks through his punches then get back to us.

too much weight coming off in too short a period of time, training schedules should be policed by the actual trainers, not fighters doing their own thing then turning up and bluffing their fitness !!

Yep, an excellent mandatory match by the BBBof C.
Carl's a very worthy British champion who still might make an impact higher up, but I'm enjoying seeing the trend of good quality British champions returning to defend their Londsdale belt after falling short after challenging for higher honours. As is the case here, it could be a real belter.
Agree that it's high time Mitchell stepped up and this is the perfect opportunity.

Carl wasn't walking through Burns' shots, Carl was stung a number of times and it seemed he might get in trouble.

If it wasn't for Carl getting thrashed last time out, SN would never have considered letting him anywhere near Mitchell.
Now it looks a winnable fight for KM, maybe, but SN will still be a bit nervous about taking this - great fight though.
