Don't forget about Ndou!

Lovemore “Black Panther” Ndou has a simple message for IBF super lightweight world champion Paul Malignaggi and his promoter Lou DiBella, “Don’t forget our rematch clause.” 35 year-old Ndou who is originally from South Africa and now lives in Sydney, lost the IBF world title to Malignaggi on points on June 16 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut, USA.

“That was an optional world title defense. I didn’t have to fight Paul Malignaggi,” said Ndou. “What concerns me is that Malignaggi and his promoter Lou DiBella seem to have no interest whatsoever in honouring our contract which contained a guaranteed rematch clause if I lost the fight.

“The last few weeks all I have read is a whole lot of names being considered for Malignaggi’s next fight, but none of them has been me. I signed the contract to fight Malignaggi in good faith and I don’t want to have to go to court to enforce it, but I will if I have to. I’m not going away and this problem is not going to fix itself. DiBella knows I have a contracted rematch clause and if Malignaggi has not been told about it, he is being kept in the dark. If I was him I’d be asking, ‘what else haven’t I been told about my own career?’”

Ndou has been training daily and sparring regularly and is ready to accept the rematch with Malignaggi as soon as DiBella schedules the fight.

“I have said before that I wasn’t happy with the style of the fight the referee allowed against Malignaggi, not letting me work on the inside,” said Ndou. “But I know the adjustments I need to make to change the result around in the rematch. Throughout my career people have written me off after a loss and I have always come back better. The ‘Black Panther’ is not finished yet!”

i cant see the outcome being any different, maybe the crads will be closer this time.

but hey, if there was indeed a rematch clause ndou may as well take it, he has nothing to lose at this stage of his career

Last time the ref controlled the fight, never letting Ndou fight on the inside which was where he had the best chance of winning the the fight. I don't expect Ndou to be favourite but I wouldn't write him off either.

Apart from the chance at a world title it would also be another good payday for Ndou which would be a big reason for wanting the fight. Ndou might be able to raise his stock a little further before the rematch takes place as well. He is sparring Mayweather and might get a fight on the Mayweather Hatton undercard, a good performace there and the rematch will be better accpeted and potentially worth more.

With an American boxer in a championship fight, they should have a neutral referee, instead of an American like Eddie Cotton.

Former South African Lovemore Ndou will get his rematch against American Paul Malignaggi, says promoter Lou DiBella.
DiBella has told an American boxing website that Australia-based Ndou had a rematch clause in the contract he signed to fight Malignaggi in June

Rematch clauses are BOGUS.

Once a champion loses then he should go back into the mix. World titles should not be 'boys clubs' where the former champs guarantee a rematch. Hey heres another thought. Earn a rematch!
This is not to denegrate lovemore, it is a common clause in a contract but still wrong

I'm not so sure about rematch clauses being totally bogus. When a champion takes a Title defence in another blokes 'home town' I see no problem with a rematch clause...

I just rekon that rematch clauses pushes contenders further back and sometimes out of the equation just as they are at their peak. If all champions had rematch clauses then no one else would get a shot.
