I actually thought Holt would win this one. A cracking lefty hook to start the trouble for Holt and the initial count then an onslaught from Torres. Holt seemed to have his senses with him when he protested and the ref (was it Gino Rodriguez?) stopped it at an odd time, pulling them out of a clinch and then waving it off but Holt had just shipped another couple of clean left hooks.

Oh well, i'm not really that bothered. Neither are really worth getting worked up about!

Agree with Steve's view... controvesial yeah.... I think Torres would have got him out of there in the 12th - Holt was pretty hurt in there and whilst I think the ref was eering on the side of caution... He was only stopping an enivitable second KD/KO and that one could have lead to serious injury.

Also agree with Steve's view on these two fighters. Torres' performance post Cotto have really highlighted how weight drained Miguel was. I except Cotto to be at Light Middle sooner rather than later.

I reckon that stoppage was definitely premature - and is just me or was there loads of crap being thrown in the ring after Holt was knocked down?

He mustve known he was wayyyy ahead, talk about negative. Th4 only thing in the refs defence is Holt wasnt firing back and was holding onto the ropes in reverse gear to, seemingly, keep himself up.

Looked shocking either way. Torres gone down in my estimation, looked easy to hit and far cruder than I remembered him against Cotto.

True enough, but was it not his hittability (coin that one!!) and crudeness that made the Cotto fight so interesting in the first place? Just a thought.

According to BN the crowd were a volatile mob and threw stuff into the ring and even grabbed Holt's legs while he was waiting in a neutral corner! Holt had dropped Torres in the 6th which i was not aware of.

I can sort of empathise with Holt's predicament to some extent. I mean who would want to go into the back jungles of Colombia with 2,000 odd people screaming for your blood? I think getting KO'd might have saved him from a worse fate had he actually won the fight

What was the Dave Parris fight where he split them and the guy got knocked out.

The stoppage seems unfair because of that last uppercut, an experienced ref goes from seperating them to waving it off because of an illegal blow.

Looks a scary place for Holt to be in that ring in darkest Colombia. Stoppage looked fair enough on the slow mo I thought, and he seemed to be literally running on empty for the whole round.

Seemed to be a fair amount of beer ( I hope it was ) raining down on the ring at the same time.

His manager/promoter is screaming blue murder, but he's probably feeling more than a little guilty at having sent his man out there in the first place.

I think it was ref Genaro Rodriguez who let Veit carry on in the rematch with Calzaghe after his trainer had introduced the white flag.
