Looking at the BBN schedules - on the night Khan is facing Lawton an all Scottish affair between Lee McAllister and Craig Docherty is taking place for the.... wait for it..... vacant WBU title.

This bill is in McAllister's home town of Aberdeen and Docherty is most certainly the away fighter as it is an "Ingle Promotions" and not a Tommy Gilmour show. McAllister is co managed by Ingle and..... wait for it.... allegedly.

Now, I cannot remember if I have ever seen McAllister fight - maybe in his early years - but certainly his record isn't bad, just the solidary points defeat vs Dean Hickman in 25 outings. His KO record ain great with just four wins coming inside the distance. However, it the rebirth of the WBU Lightweight title that I am most concerned with.

We all know about Docherty, an acceptable opponent... its just the damn pissing title that I don't like.

Something tells me Khan might heading towards the WBU route.

McAllister vs Docherty sounds like a good un.... It would be nice if this got some TV time.

I don't mind any of the combinations at the moment, just those three letters is the bit that is worrying.

It's a good fight in it's own right but why that shit bauble needs to be present is beyond me. McAllister has slipped through the net a bit, i remember his name a while back but have seen little since of him. His record is flattering and a little padded, if he can fight a bit we shall find out because Docherty won't come to lie down.

If that's the case then is there a chance of a WBU champion who is not managed by Mr Warren? Doesn't happen too often

McAllister is the man on the rise; Docherty, a former Commonwealth super-featherweight champion, the more established. McAllister is the flashy switch-hitter; Docherty, the solid pressure fighter. But McAllister has the advantage of being at home, where he enjoys fanatical support and goes by the nickname of "The Aberdeen Assassin".

McAllister is on a winning run of 17 since his only loss (in 25 fights) to useful Midlander Dean Hickman in the Midlands in July 2003 (pts 6). He's lucky to be fighting at all after nearly losing his life in a hit-and-run smash on the holiday island of Crete in the summer of 2004, which cost him nine months of his career. A quick, busy, elusive boxer with a dangerous punch when he sets himself, McAllister celebrates his 25th birthday the day before the fight and licking battle-hardened (if cut-prone) Docherty would make it a birthday to remember. His biggest win.
Docherty picked up the Commonwealth belt from Coventry's fancied Dean Pithie in eight rounds back in 2003 (trademark body shot) and made two impressive defences before wily Russian Boris Sinitsin outsmarted him for the European super-featherweight title in 2004 (pts 12). He tried to bounce back in an all-Scotland showdown (another one) with Edinburgh's world class Alex Arthur but was outgunned and lost his Commonwealth title in the ninth in April 2005. He's boxed only twice in the two and a half years since: both routine wins up at lightweight. He will be rusty. In saying that, he's still only 27 and lost only to Michael Gomez, Sinitsin and Arthur in 24 fights. At his best, or even near his best, he's a threat to the untested local man.
But young and hungry Lee, on a roll and on home turf, has to be favoured.

Boycie - ok you're entitled to nit pick at the exact phrasing, but we all know that the main point is that within the last 5 or 6 years, Sports Network has probably staged about 95% of all WBU world title events. It's not a coincidence.

The problem is that most boxing fans don't know what WBU means and all they have to say is its ricky hattons old title and suddenly he is the next ricky hatton I would be happy if hatton fought the winner of the fight but not for a title he can comfortably hang on to without having to show real ambition.

Boxingchat, even though Warren might not manage some of those boxers surely they fought for the WBU on his shows?! Groenewald-Farnell, Elcock-Farnell, Ricky Hatton, Skelton-Moli, Gary Lockett. Were they not on Sports Network promotions?

He is a bit light punching but he takes a shot aswell by the look of his record.

McAllister struggles to get decent fights. Never mind the silly title. The Docherty fight is a good match and should he win Willie Limond who has ducked McAllister in the past would be a good next step. I am not sure what his best weight is as he flits between the divisions. I did not realise Warren had an interest.
