Location-Madison Square Garden NYC
Date-September.29.1977.
According to many boxing historians, the fight that Ali should have definately retired after.
Check out the famous second round of that fight on youtube.
It was just posted a few days ago.
In round two ,Earnie Shavers hits Ali with a followup right hand in the corner and it looks like Ali's right leg locks up after the punch.

Actually there are two different POV of round 2 on youtube.
Check out the British version,it looks like more action then the American POV camera.
Actually in viewing both it appears Ali's legs locked up more then once from a Shaver's right hand.

Ali, at 35, took several flush right hands right on the chin from Shavers and never went down. Holmes, in his prime, took one and was put flat on his ass.

If your point is to say Ali's chin was better than Holmes... You have no basis going by that comment.
Does that mean Dale Brown has a better chin than Jean Marc Mormeck?

Shavers should of won this fight, he was landing crushing right hands nearly every round and Ali's jab was ineffective against Shavers come forward style.
The only real significance Ali showed in this fight was the left hook in the 15th which had Shavers on the verge of going down, but Shavers dominated much of the fight and gave the champion a tremendous beating.

That's absolutely what I'm saying. I have no basis for saying what? Shavers nailed Ali many times with a punch that put Holmes down, and when he got up he was out on his feet for an entire round. And that's ignoring the difference in age and mileage the two fighters had on them. It's not just that fight that I'm basing this on, there are others. Holmes had a great chin, Ali's was better.
Lots of Holmes fans here, I see.

I think most of us will agree that it was Ali's last great performance. (Please don't anybody say Spinks II) And I'm we will all agree Ali's literal last minute flurry in the 15th was thrilling. We had a post in the past (one of mine I think) that asked what's the biggest shot you've ever seen a fighter survive and mine was that right hand in round two. The thing to remember is that Earnie was not really expected to be that much trouble. Dangerous yes, going to put up a good effort yes, fade down the stretch yes, make the distance no way. Flash Gordon of Tonights Boxing Program predicted an Ali kayo between the 10th and 15th but warned everybody this could be trouble. Fortunately for Muhammad he showed up in shape and ready to fight. Cause he sure got one. Great, great fight!

Round 14 has also been posted on youtube.
Thats when Ali went to the canvas and it was ruled a slip, even though the sportscasters said intially it was a slip.
Ali looked like he just lost his balance backing up to me.

This was the fight that Ali's doctor Ferdie Percheco retired from Ali's camp after. He wrote letters to everyone including Ali's wife and Angelo Dundee asking for Ali to retire from boxing.
