What a joke Samuel Peter has been named WBC Interim champ.
He will be presented with a WBC belt soon.
So the WBC can now get sanctioning money off of Peter, which is all this move is about.

I have read that he might/will fight Golota on the 6th October now, can anyone confirm if this is a signed deal yet or still in the works?

There have been a few names thrown about Travis Walker, Andrew Golota, John Ruiz (god forbid) and DaVarryl Williamson.
Looks as if Golota is ahead of the queue, probably because he has close ties with Don King.

Oliver McCall?

Isn't he close to the top of the WBC rankings? Linked to Don King? Available? Active? Recognisable? Sellable? A former WBC champion?

Bloody hell, a 5th title shot for nutjob Golota?! Is he going for a record THREE losses for the world title inside one round?

Should be McCall - he did win a #2 contenders match with Sam. I personally think an interim title should only be defended against the mandatories.

Ruiz has said he will take the fight Maskev pulled out of, which would be a resonable fight for a world title.

Andrew Golota won't be the opponent, the people at Showtime wisely wouldn't agree to it. Oliver McCall's handlers and Sam Peter's management couldn't agree on money.

Jameel McCline is being considered, but since he's not ranked by the WBC in their top 40, is he a good choice for a title fight right now? I think either David Tua or Vladimir Virchis would be a better choice.

Anyway, we'll likely know later today.

Is it possibly one of the 4 fighters scheduled to fight on the same bill? Seem like 3 of the names quite often popping up on this thread. Golota, Williamson, McCline... What about big Kev McBride?

Don't worry about being ranked - if Golota can somehow squeeze into the top 15 after a long absence to face Byrd, then any one of these four can again.

You sound like on of the kids in a Jason Vorhees film. "We'll just stick a lightening rod in him and allow the lightening to hit him then see what happens. He's been dead for years, he cannot hurt us".

Death and mayhem ensues. In Ruiz's case drift and mediocrity will return.

Don't let him back in or we'll get 'Vander-Ruiz IV 'The Unification'.
Don't get me wrong the idea of Ruiz comming back doesn't inspire me but he is a former world champion who probably didn't deserve to loose against Valuev and if peter can beat him he will have proved himself to be world champion caliber, if not then someone else who deserves a world title can Knock him Out thats how it works.. fornicate he is more deserving than bloody Andrew Golota who seems perpetualy terrified by the idea of winning a world title.

Don King tried to put Golota in, but Showtime, the American TV Network, said no. However, McCline is being considered.

Well i guess McCline will be in shape as he was expecting to face the comebacking Vitali Klitschko, but what annoys me is the fact that this would just be a mark time fight for Peter, now the guy has to pay a percentage of his money to the WBC, because this 'Ruling body' have named him Champ.

Stinks!!

If someone vacates a title befor a bout then fair enough there opponents should be mad vacant.

But in this case its not that, Maskaev the WBC champ is injured , he'll be ready to fight in 3-4 months, so the Interim title is handed to Peter, who has no choice but to accept or he will sink in the WBC ratings. Therefore the WBC guarantees it self a payday out of Peter's next fight, whoever its against.

Its all just a money making scheme.

Ruiz Is more deserving than Golota though. He was robbed against Valuev and gave Chagaev a close fight.

John Ruiz, Andrew Golota, DeVaryl Williamson, Jameel McCline!! My god it makes depressing reading doesn't it? The old has-beens, the usual suspects, the never were's...generally all the names being wheeled out for a crack at the divisions top prize (allegedly). No wonder the Heavyweight scene is in such a sorry mess

the division is a terrible mess.

i think peter deserves this interim tag though tbh.

cos he has been waiting for a while now.

i still think vitali whacks the lot of em.

but he can't get himself fit can he.

roll on Povetkin, roll on Solis...This current bunch, none of 'em deserve to be called champion and I don't think Peter is the heir apparent to anything. The top ten are good and solid, but as ppl are saying, it's a mess and we need a good champion to rule over these good, but flawed, fighters.

I'm almost glad this has happened because the Peter hype would have gone overboard if he'd KO'd Maskaev (a knockoutable fighter...).

Well he's just been on Eurosport - but what a fight it would be between Peter and Tua. Tua looked in decent shape there vs Montana and has lights out power.

Thats the fight that could but some life back in the devision.

David Tua is the only man capable of unifying the heavyweight title in my opinion. The rest of them are all either over the hill, very average or pretenders. Take away Tua and Vitali Klitschko and anyone can beat anyone in my opinion.

Forget about all these 'prospects' as well, the likes of Arreola, Povetkin, Greenberg, they are all KO's waiting to happen.

The division is in the worst state in history. How could anyone justify handing people like Golota, McCline, etc title shots again?

One other name to mention as a possible 'saviour' is Sergei Lyakhovich, but who knows where he's gone.

Peter v Mcall. Seriously, probably a shit fight, but two of the best chins in the division in a long while got to be worth it, even give McCall an outside chance.
