MaxBaer.org - 1st Year Anniversary and Major Updates !!

Hiya Gents !

MaxBaer.org celebrates its 1 year anniversary this month and its been an eventful year ! I've contributed research, anecdotes and photos for a Sacramento public broadcasting segment on Max, for a San Francisco architectural firm reconstructing Max Baer Park, and for a world famous author/producer who plans to include Max among a cast of characters in a novel set in 1930s Sacramento. I thought it best to turn down the medium who wanted me to appear on the show while she attempted to contact Max in the hereafter...not my cup of tea ! =) Finally, by Googling the words "max baer" maxbaer.org is officially #2 and climbing, right behind #1 Wikipedia's entry for Max, which I've made major corrections/contributions to.

I've made yet more updates to my site and invite you to stop in if you haven't in awhile. http://www.maxbaer.org My next big project is to finally get the "Clips" page working so that it is accessible to all and add a slew of new films !

Current changes to the site:

* I've added over 10,000 words on the "Early Years" page, covering:
- Max's earliest bouts with Schaaf, Loughran, Heeney, Risko, and especially the buildup to his July 4th, 1931 battle against Paolino Uzcudun.
- The Baer family's arrival, settlement and migration across the United States.

* I've added an e-mail link to a gent who offers some ULTRA RARE classic fights on DVD, which he's transferred from original 16mm films. I've personally purchased Baer-Levinsky, Baer-Levinsky exhibition, Interview with Baer & Louis, Full Baer-Cominskey, Baer-Nova 1 & 2, Baer in newsreels.

Films available include and I quote: "film on Jack Johnson training for Jeffries, Jeffries training for Ruhlin, all the way through to today. I have a lot of the Pabst Wednesday night fights and many of the Gillette Fights with Jimmy Powers and later with Don Dunphy, etc. Jeffries knocking out Fitzsimmons in their 2nd championship fight, etc. I do have some archive footage of many 30's - 50's fighters in interviews, newsreel and training. I have silent films that shows Johnson, Sullivan (a fat old man), Jeffries in training, etc. I also have stuff like that for Dempsey, Carpentier, Greb, etc."

* I've added a slew of Answers to Questions on the FAQs. Keep those questions coming, guys !

* I've added more material to existing sections.

* I've added about 40 more photos to the photos page, including:
- early fights and more major fight scenes
- advertising items
- later in life images.

Enjoy !

Congratulations Maxie's Girl :TU:

website sounds like it has improved above and beyond and by great leaps and bounds, since it's invention. am sure it is something the Baer family would be proud of, and what die hard fans would truly appreciate.

i'll be sure to check out the archival footage of Johnson, Jefferies and Fitzimmons; a great addition to the site! :)

Hey Mister !

Hope you're well. Yep, I'm getting into the nitty gritty stuff that folks don't always generally hear about but which I think might be of interest. Some of the new newsreel stuff I just bought is terrific. Max was just a nut, the way he would entertain the crowds at his training camp and his ability to mimic people is hysterical !

Sorry if I wasn't clear, I don't have footage of the above greats, I just offer a link to a gent who has several hundred bouts through history and you can buy them from him.

Take care,
Cat

I was never really interested in Baer's career; but this outstanding site has definitely changed that.

Congratulations! :TU:

You have no idea what a compliment that is ! Thank you most kindly. Max Baer fascinates me and he's gotten a bum rap in modern times. The fact that my site has changed someone's mind or has sparked an interest is priceless to me !

Cat

Thank you for fixing Wikipedia.

Realize that you need to check in periodically there to see if anything has been changed.

I would advise making a copy of what your fix is, so that you can change it back with the press of a button if you need to in the future.

Thanks, I did save a copy and do check on it. They have a 'history' tab with a 'current' 'last' and 'undo' feature too, so if anything nefarious goes on you can do a type of 'system restore' which is convenient.
