Calzaghe W12 Kessler


Kessler is good, Joe is very good. This will be relatively straightfoward, not as easy as the Lacy fight but Joe will will by 6 or 7 rounds and will win well.

Kessler brings nothing special to the table and thats the key.

Calzaghe, close but clear decision. Joe starts fast, winning the early rounds, Kessler boxes well to take the middle rounds, Joes workrate and fitness help him take the late rounds

Calzaghe is quitting on his chair between round 9 and 10.
Kessler is the new undefeated unified super middleweight champion of the world.

Kessler has more ambition and is in better shape physically (hands, stronger at the weight). Joe doesn't fight boxers who excel at long range and he's going to get jarred. I go for Kessler 8-4 in rounds in a fast, fierce bout which may mean he gets the nod by scores of 7-5, or maybe split or majority decision. Kessler's just more accurate and in control of his boxing. Look how wild Joe has been in the last two. Joe will make sure he's in great shape, but come on, he wanted to move up to light heavy two years ago, has given his peak performance and it usually goes downhill after that...

I see Joe winning a decision outworking and overwhelming Kessler's style.

I'll go with Kessler by a pretty clear decision. Joe makes too many mistakes and Kessler rarely makes any, basically.

Kessler starts well, snapping back JC's head & giving him problems with movement (surprisingly to most people).

JC takes over at the halfway stage as Kess tires from movement & getting slapped, wears a bloodied Kessler down over the stretch for a clear (8-4 -ish) decision.

Caveat: unless JC has finally aged. In which case, he gets his head jabbed off all night, spazzes his combos off Kessler's tucked-up guard, and loses about 118-110.

Sorry to sit on the fence, but my opinions on the fight are a bit like the quality of light, where if you measure it one way it's a particle, and if you measure it another way it's a wave...

Joe raised his game again and dominates Kessler for a clear points decision or late stoppage.

I don't envisage anything else happening. The Danes raped and pillaged us for years not its payback!

I don't think us Brits give Kessler the respect he deserves for his abilities. IMO some of you may end up seriously surprised.

Kessler proves too illusive and well timed to be dominated from the outside - and Joe has to take increasingly big chances to get inside on him. Initially Joe will appear succesfull, but ultimately he gets caught and goes down.
He probably gets up again and fights with renewed rage - but he also throws caution overboard and the whole thing repeats itself.
Kessler slowly takes over the initiative as Calzaghe's confidence dissapears.
The fight ends rnd 6-9 where Joe either gets counted out having been down a few times already or he retires shocked and disillussioned between rounds.

Could go either way. Kessler about a 60-40 favourite to me.

Just think Joe has got to go sometime although whatever the result he is the better fighter...

This is a big big factor.

Calzaghe on points, with Kessler sucking it up to make it closer than his face will show.

Kessler hasn't fought anyone like Calzaghe, and in my opinion he is in for a rude awakening, and a prolonged hammering over the distance.

it will be Calzaghes toughest fight in my eyes,he will take a points desision by 3-4 rounds..cant wait for this fight......

I'm actually more confident of picking Hatton over Mayweather than Joe over Kessler. Kessler is about 7 years younger, stronger, punches harder and is technically better. He also seems to have more ambition at this stage.

Joe's got a very good chin, but has always been open to a right hand. As he was floored by a Byron Mitchell right in the second round, I predict he'll be similarly sent to the canvas by Kessler in the tenth. This time, however, instead of getting up to stop his opponent, Joe will valiantly rise, but promptly be floored once or twice more before the ref calls it off.

I hope I'm wrong, but I feel a test of this magnitude has come too late for Calzaghe and he may rue the wasted years after he retires. Kessler KO 10.

Kessler is going to make it interesting but i envision a good clear victory for Calzaghe.

I think that Calzaghe will probably show that he is a grade higher calibre of fighter than Kessler, generally dominate and stop Kessler by TKO in the tenth.
I might be underestimating Kessler but from what I've seen, I just don't think he is on the same level as Calzaghe.

Calzaghe's punching from the outside isn't great and he wings his shots a lot. Kessler's superior outside game and his good footwork will be enough to get him home.

Wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way though, it's a tough fight to call.

Christ, when I started to read your post I thought you had already seen the fight through some clairvoyant power seriously though, its that sort of fight where its difficult to be sure what will happen so sitting on the fence is understandable - By the way love the physics analogy.

Calzaghe has hand problems, we all know that, so Joe wont be taking any chances by banging hard - He will be trying to get rounds under his belt - If however late on the fight is close Joe will have to risk it to make sure of the win - Another thing we know is he will have trained hard for peak performance as he always does - My opinion is Joe is a better fighter and Kessler will find him a difficult target - It isnt an easy fight to predict and Kessler could surprise us - I have only seen Kessler on video and on youtube so I cant really be too sure about his abilities - He does look good but a little too upright and Joe will capitalise on that - Its going to be a tougher fight than even the Jeff Lacy one - Kessler has more class and a KO punch as well so its not going to be an easy night for Joe but the prize and prestige of beating Kessler will drive Joe on, as well as his fear of losing - If Calzaghe wins so will Hatton, what a fabulous scenario for British boxing and it could well happen!!!
