Hey guys...say that these two met on there respective pursuits for the Heavyweight title.

Foster in his quest to climb the ranks among the big men's division

and

Patterson in pursuit of the title he had held twice nearly a decade before.

Who do you guys pick and how do you imagine this fight going, if it did potentially pan out.

Decent match, but Foster was very ordinary at heavyweight, and Patterson was still good enough around this time to beat Bonavena so late rounds KO or UD for Floyd.

I'd bet on Patterson and be very nervous.

I'd pick Patterson. Maybe by knock out. Even in his last fight against Ali, Patterson clearly still had a lot left. Foster didn't have much at Heavyweight.

It's a decent hypothetical this one.

If Patterson was younger, I would have favoured him heavily, but at 36, he was a tad old.

Foster was poor at heavyweight, but to be fair, ANY light-heavyweight in history would have been poor at heavyweight in the 1970's.

Foster jabbed Ali into 1973 when they fought, although I get the feeling that Ali carried Foster.

If Foster could have employed that jab against an ageing Patterson, he might have given Floyd fits.

However, I still believe that Floyd would have won on points, or maybe even a TKO late.
