The latest frustration for Rhodes. At least the bill goes ahead:

Shame, was looking forward to seeing what Rhodes had left for this one.

Are the board going to allow Olufemi Moses to take on Rhodes? the lad has a 3-1 record and lost last time out.

I know what you mean. Should be OK though.

The board sanctioned the fight yesterday.
Weigh in is 4.00pm today.

I know its last minute , but i do feel the board should not have sanctioned this fight. Moses has done 6 rounds once, and they were 2 minute rounds.

I'm not saying that Moses is rubbish, or he might not put in a good showing, but what happens if he gets hurt ? the anti boxing people will have a field day with this.

I've seen Moses twice – both in Coventry – and thought he was very, very unlucky to concede the decision to naturally bigger Prince Arron last time out at the Leofric Hotel.

The former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist has skills to burn but lacks power and is in over his head too soon against the vastly more experienced Rhodes.

Still, he might give Rhodes a decent workout for a few rounds.

Is he still going to be calling himself the Spice Boy - it doesn't suit him now with his new "Streamline" hair do.

Is it me or are men getting balder younger. My old man had the piss taken out of him for losing his hair at 40. Now it seems like if you can last that age with a good head - your very lucky.

What a peach of a shot from Rhodes to finish the fight in the second.

Anyone else smell a rat here?
Stress fractures are often caused by overload but I've never heard a car cause one before. It makes you wonder if Duran was ever coming over.

Also Coldwell's claims about Moses' Olympic credentials seem rather vague. Can anyone confirm them?

They were only 'reports' - difficult to confirm, really.

I had a look and found he had boxed at the Commonwealths...

As far as we were concerned, yes he was coming over.
His visa application went thru after several letters and calls to the Visa Officer at the British High Commision in Accra, Ghana.
Upon finally recieving the visa there was approx two hrs before he had to check in for the flight, so as i am told, went for a run. During which he was run over.
Originally we were told it seemed quite bad but having spoken to Duran himself,on saturday morning( after he himself requested to speak with me) he has said the doctors have stated he needs four weeks off before he can train again.

Thats basically it.
The opponent we got was the best that could be done at such short notice.
Frustrating for Ryan, myself and the people that were looking forward to seeing Duran. But it happened and now we can only move on.

Well hopefully Ryan can move on now and fight for a title, think he will be looking at a fight with Bradley Pryce for the commonwealth title, would be a good seller that fight, both are in good form.

'd' can you give us any news on what Ryan has planned next ?

For the record, "beagleboy" is not "beagleboys" which was my user name on previous websites.
Me thinks someone is trying to stir things up .... now I wonder who that might be ! ?
Just go to the boxrec search engine for details on Moses.
It's there for all to see.
He won the Commonwealth bronze in Melbourne 2006.
It's pathetic to suggest the Duran fight was never on.

He fought at the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games under the name of Moses Ajaye. I remember watching him. He's a decent stylist with no dig.

I've seen him fight twice in the pros (one win, one loss - though i had him beating Prince Arron), both in Coventry.

It makes me smile when people complain about matches saying Moses shouldn't be allowed to box Ryan, So what does Dave Coldwell do cancel the show and lose money, what about the other 10 lads who are suppose to fight on the bill do the lose the opportunity to earn money. The promotions was about Ryan and getting down to 11st again after 10 years. I understand he weighed 11st 1lb at the weigh-in on Friday.

Let me break it down into simple terms, Ossie Duran gets injured going to the airport on Wednesday. The next step is to establish what boxers are available to fight at 3 days notices and who are willing to fight Ryan Rhodes at such short notice.

It's easy to critise, but finding a solutions is harder. Everyone thinks they can matchmake but believe me its the one of the hardest jobs in boxing and a thankless job and its getting harder now with most boxers wanting to be the house fighter.

Of course i wouldn't want to see the show cancelled, but yes, i did criticise the Moses match, because i thought it was a mismatch. As i think the Duddy v Prince Arron match is looking the same.

I know match making is a hard job and i appreciate that last weeks show was thrown because of the late withdrawl of Duran. But putting a 4 fight novice in with Rhodes wasn't right in my book.

But i wish nothing but success for Ryan Rhodes in the future, as i said i want him to face Bradley Pryce next, a great matchup.

I understand what your saying, I know it wasn't the ideal match but unfortunately Moses was the best of who was available at 3 day's notice and who was willing to get in the ring.

Also take into consideration that it was a none televised show, so money is restricted.

Hopefully Ryan will get the opportunity to fight Bradley Pryce but that will come down to Sports Network.

On the Duddy situation I don't know the full circumstances, so I will not start slagging people off, but again it's not a great match on paper but sometimes promoters and fighters have to accept what is around at that particular time.

Fair play Dave, thanks for your answers.

Would it not have taken a decent purse to get Duran over?

Surely somebody would have fancied a pay-day if all that purse was offered

As far as i'm aware the promoter normally books the flights, if thats the case, the promoter will have lost money on Duran's flight.

Yeh thats right dave promoter books and pays for flights if they dont come its him who loses.Sometimes theres other little bills as well involving agents and visas.

Let me assure you the full purse was made available to any prospective opponent but there were no takers for a good 24 hours.
This was a nightmare because ticket sales had gone so well.
Anyway, it's history now and Rhodes is out again on 5th December 2007 in Sheffield.
If Duran wants it, he can have it.
