Derry Matthews won in style against the inexperianced Matthew Marsh - I gave Marsh no more than one round - He was bobbing and weaving and throwing very little - What he did throw mainly fell short - In the end the scores meant nothing as Matthews finished the fight with an 11th round stoppage - The roof nearly came off with the Liverpool fans making most of the noise - Matthews fought a good clean fight and at the end not only acknowledged his opponent but gestured to his supporters that they should cheer Marsh also - Matthews had dirty on his wasteband but anyone who hadnt seen his last fight would be left wondering why - I was very critical of him before but all is forgiven Derry for a very sporting performance and a deserved win.

Knew Derry was better when he was clean.

Foster Jr seems to be fighting Arthur Instead.

It was a measured approach in defeating a domesic level fighter with little pop that could not back up a taller, bigger and more efficient operator at this level.

Matthews is no more Euro level if that. Sorry for the cynicism.

He has some world potential maybe fringe If he uses his height and reach advatantage well enough. Good left jab then followed by a left hook.

On the same bill Stephen Foster who lost his WBU title to Matthews won his fight against Frenchman, Jean Marie Cadet - He was floored three times and was down at the end of the round - The ref counted after the bell had sounded and Cadet, although up before the countout, was so dazed the ref stopped the fight - Foster now has a fight with Alex Arthur - He has the power for an upset but somehow you wouldnt think it was likely - Great fight in prospect though - Buncey did the presenting, not exactly pro style, but his unorthodox manner made it very entertaining - Ritchie Woodall was his co presenter and did a great job, they both did - John Rawling assisted by Duke as usual, did the commentary - Pretty good night of boxing on Banana sports.

A good left jab and right hook against any opposition will work well for a guy with Matthews physical advantages and obvious schooling given certain opposition. Euro level fighter at best for me, if that.

In Boxing Monthly after Cook lost Cook Sr said theres always Derry Matthews but Cooks drained at 9stone.

Does anyone think Matthews looks rather like Carl Froch? - My mate and I think so, his style is totally different but some of his mannerisms are similar - The way in which he pull his shorts up on his way back to his corner is the best example, virtually the same. :P

Keeps his hands up and less mouthy than Froch.

Thanks for the report, Waylon. I'm away from home this weekend. I've set the DVD recorder at home, but only for Diaz-Diaz at 3am. Sounds like I missed a good one there.

Derry fought well. But Marsh out of his depth. Steve can bang, and has been dead at feather, so the Amazing one could have a harder fight than he imagines on his hands.

Matthews next fight is set for Feburary 2nd , at Liverpool Echo Arena.
Personally i would liked to have seen him back in the ring sooner.
