OK, I dont know what Wayne has left..im sure he wouldnt come back if he was dead but I doubt that its the same Wayne that went to Japan and relieved Yakushiji of his Bantamweight title...

BUT......

does he need to be that good to beat Martinez??

Martinez looks to me like he starts fast and if he doesnt knock you out early you can outscore him...Wayne wont be caught cold(or be chinny, whatever) ..he will take him in to deep water..

And if Wayne has anything left he will drown him

Wayne is very, very old though. At that weight class.

But, despite his venerable age, I wouldn't write him off.

May I be the first to say I don't wanna see Wayne take anymore head punches. Good luck and all, but I don't wanna see it.

I dont like the look of this fight at all, an over brave warrior coming back from inactivity against a hard punching young gun!.... I just hope Wayne is blasted out early rather than taking a long and positively dangerous beating....

Are you sure its for the EBU title? McCullough cant fight for the title according to the EBU rules (and they dont mention the fight on theor site either)

How the hell is it being sanctioned??.... how long is it since Wayne beat a decent fighter???..... my fear is that he will take a prolonged beating and get hurt, ...why are these guys constantly allowed to go on till they have brain damage... how about stopping a guy fighting before he has trouble stringing a sentence together....

According to SKY its for the title...realise that there was some confusion so it would be nice for someone to clarify!!

OK..if Wayne hasnt regressed from the first larios fight then he wins this...at no point has Martinez looked anything other than a swinging puncher who is going to tire after 3 rounds..If Waynes chin is still there then he shouldnt be written off..

The only question is what Wayne has left..if he is shot to shit then Martinez beats him and maybe stops him...

But Waynes body is probably younger than Michael Gomez'!! Judge him by what he needs to do to beat Euro level operators...not Israel Vasquez..

And as for this crap bout him getting hurt, at what point has Wayne started to sound punchy..hes a hot young trainer ffs

Wayne doesn't sound punchy and lets hope it stays that way.

Martinez can punch and Wayne doesn't block/avoid shots. Wayne also has next to no power so we know he is going to ship all that Martinez can throw at him.

Just because he doesn't sound punchy now, means nothing.

What has his body got to do with it? No matter how fit you are, being punched as often as Wayne does in the head with flush shots, damages brain cells and causes damage.

Wayne took fearful amounts of head shots against Scott Harrison, and Larios, and has been catching punches with his face for years now. When was the last time Wayne fought and didn't take hard shots flush in every single round?

By the point Wayne starts to sound punchy it will already be too late, the damage is irreversible, the idea is to stop a fighter going on the point where that happens. It may already be too late for Wayne, who knows how he will look and sound in ten years time? He may escape scott free as Jake LaMotta did, who knows, but one thing is for sure, taking more punches at this stage of his career is not a good thing.

mccullough has never looked like a full on world beater since he edged jose luis bueno down at bantamweight. his last top performance was vs morales god knows how long ago.

we don't know how good martinez is but we don't know exactly how bad mccullough is now. there was a decline between the two larios fights that seemed pretty worrying to me.

McCullough's only looked washed up against world class fighters. We don't know Kiko's level yet.

But it doesnt take a brain surgeon to see that Kiko can punch and Wayne cant punch, so the worse case scenerio is that they hammer eachother all night and Wayne takes another couple of 100 punches to the head that his brain can do without.....
Waynes attitude in the Larios fight was very worrying, he seemed to delight in being hit, its a gungho heart like that which takes a guy down a dark road....

Yes, Wayne's attitude is macho bordering on the foolhardy.

I remember an interview after either the Harrison fight or first Larios fight, when McCulloch said entirely seriously.

"People say I get hit a lot in there, that I take too many shots, but that's my style."

WTF! Getting hit is not a style, it's called having zero defence, or having zero concern for your own well being, depending on your view.

Wayne was not always so willing to take 5 to land 1, but in recent times he seems to have derived some sort of odd pleasure from proving he can take undue levels of punishment in the ring.

Firstly that wasnt a biased post..there were lots of ifs and buts in my post...

Secondly Wayne may not punch that hard but he has enough(had enough) to sicken opponents..look at Larios, at one point in Larios 1 it seemed as though Oscar wanted to quit, he certainly didnt like being where he was..

Fast forward 30 months and we have a Euro champ who looks wild and tbh honest no-one knows if hes any good..80'odd seconds against Dunne does not make him Pacman!!

Lets put it this way, IF Wayne can get out of round 3 then Martinez, who loads up like Popeye will start to tire..and If Wayne can still deliver the punches to a Larios level then he will outwork him...

How can you say noone knows how good he is after what he did to Dunne??.... lets just hope Wayne spends closer to 80 seconds than 36 minutes at the hands of Kiko.... and aside from the health worries what has Wayne done to merit this title shot besides not fight for over two years.
The fact that he hasnt been able to get a fight in America speaks volumes.... they know that he's through and probably shouldnt be fighting...

Knocking out a guy in 80secs proves nothing..it was so brief that you cant tell if he can keep that workrate up, whether he will carry his power through or what he can do when somethings coming back...

You go on like nobody will liscence him..he wanted to come back in at championship level, he wanted to do it in Ireland and he has got his wish...methinks this has been in the pipleine and Wayne has been doing loads of gymwork..

If Martinez is the new Pacman then so be it..Wayne will happily retire in front of his own fans..but from what I saw pre Dunne the guy is wild, and that style does not last past 5 rounds...Dunne just fought a stupid fight, plus he didnt protect his chin...

He catches too many, his chin is the only world class thing he has left and he is too brave.

Those factors combined don't bode well..
