EDINBURGH'S WBO interim super-featherweight champion Alex Arthur and coach Billy Nelson have been forced to split just three weeks after reuniting.

Arthur had recalled Nelson to his team after they had enjoyed previous success from 2000 to 2002. However, the move has been KO'd by Nelson's new shift working patterns.

The blow comes just days after the care home worker appeared at a press conference at Meadowbank Stadium ahead of Arthur's title defence against England's Stephen Foster on December 15.

"I'm totally gutted, but working in the care home is my main source of income and having to work constant nightshift - as I now have to - would mean me finishing early in the morning then going through to Edinburgh for 12.30pm," said Nelson.

"Very reluctantly, I've had to tell Alex that the only way that I could coach him would be if he came through to Glasgow three times a week, but Alex is worried that driving through to Glasgow would aggravate the back condition that was one of the factors behind his split from Peter Harrison.

"I've enjoyed the last three weeks working with Alex but I have to put my own safety first as driving along the M8 in a tired condition after a long night shift to train Alex would be hazardous for me and others."

Arthur said: "I'm just as gutted as Billy and we had a magic working relationship in our times in the gym, but I have to accept it.

"When I defend against Foster Terry McCormack and Austen Handren will be my main cornermen.''

He doesnt pay his cornermen that where the problems are, if arthur were to offer billy some decent pay and security as his trainer for future fights he would leave his job, as far as i know terry and austrin get pennies if anything at all.

I cant believe he is as old as he is, the I remember him getting Commonwealth gold in 1998!!!

Buchannan is right though, thiis chopping and changing trainers isnt helping him at all!!

Maybe Foster has a chance

He's been through more trainers than a gang of hoodies at footlocker.

If Arthur is not careful, it could all go pete-tong for him! Parting company with a trainer after only a few weeks in preparation for a bout in the near future (Dec) is not a good sign in my view.

Alex seems like a really down to earth guy, not the hype that would act like he's the trainer & that he knows everything when with a trainer. I can't see how Arthur & a trainer's personalities would clash?

Indeed, what is going on with him? Arthur is a top-class fighter, he needs a top-class trainer. I hope he finds one, & pronto. Enough time has already been wasted, fighing Foster is a backward step in my opinion.

Can't be wasting more valuable time with switching trainer evety now & then.

If Arthur is having that many problems finding a full-time trainer, why not send him down to Enzo Calzaghe? I know Arthur has talked about not aggravating his old back injury by driving too far, but for fucks sake, he's a world class boxer. Relocate yourself. I'm sure Calzaghe snr. would be available for a 'world champion's' timetable.

I think Enzo could bring a lot out of Arthur. He'd make him work his arse off, if nothing else. Or is that the problem?
