as i predicted gomez loses. what now for the mex-manc?
the guy loves a ruck but doesnt have the stamina. should we stop a born fighter from doing what he loves? or should he put his health first?

Hard to say really, people are always saying he gets into trouble but I dont recall him being in trouble recently?.... I tend to think that a lot of his attitude is a bit of an act, partly because it pysches him up and partly because he knows the fans love it. All in all his best move would be to quit fighting and get into training other fighters, I think he would be good at motivating other fighters and behind it all he seems quite a canny bloke.... he fights with his heart too much to really want to hang around for much longer and it'd be a shame to see him used as a stepping stone for others. I wouldnt be shcoked to see him turn up as an opponent for Khan in the future, though having said that his camp would probably see Gomez as still being too dangerous!!!!....

Rematch is very marketable. Likely to be more of the same with Gomez, the kamikaze guy, getting stopped by the more composed guy, Johanesson. But it'll be riveting while it lasts. That fight was something special. It was short, excellent punching all the way & very dramatic. I think this was better than Gomez v Arthur, & Gomez fought way better than he should have.

His KO of Thornhill was a picture perfect left hook.

His win over Leva Kirakosyan was a proper houdini job - Gomez was almost completely out on his feet before coming back to stop the dangerous Armenian.

Gomez wont retire, they would have to take his license off him, to stop him fighting - He fought a very diciplined fighter with better stamina and ring skills so he lost but I think he can still come back - A rematch with Carl isnt out of the question and a fight with Mitchell next year would be very well worth watching - Foster after losing to AA would be another - If Harrison (Audley that is) can make a comeback, Gomez can - OK he may end up slurring his speech and dribbling but thats his choice, unless the decision is taken out of his hands - The fight reminded me of the Gatti/Ward battles and Gatti has never been the same since - They say Gatti is a bit punchdrunk, how true it is I dont know but heavy punches to the head cant be good for the grey matter and Gomez took too many against Carl.

His Kirakosyan win looks very good now doesn't it? Gomez has always had a big gob but it's to motivate himself. After the McDonagh fight i admit i thought he was finished, maybe he has something left after all.

I think the important thing for mike is that he isnt brought back as "cannon fodder" for up and coming fighters, something I know wont happen whilst he's with Steve @ VIP, but regardless, the names mentioned on this board Arthur especially, are not suitable for Mike at this point. I thought he lacked a bit of snap in his punches, steve himself said they felt it was a bit too soon, but couldnt afford to let the opportunity pass.

Whatever happens, he's a character for the sport, in fairness we need the James Toneys and the Michael Gomez's in the sport. It'd be a tad boring if everyone was complementing each other all the time, wouldnt it?

I think Gomez will retire, he has retired once and thats usually a sign that he'll prepared to do it again if he suffers a setback.

He might make another comeback, but I do suspect a retirement speech first.

I think the premature stoppage has given him some renewed hope mate, he believes he would've won.

hope he does call it a day now,he fought far better than i beleived he would,and he could probably go on and beat most at domestic level but every fight he has is taking more and more out of him,he has massive heart still but like everyone age catches you up, i think he has come out of this fight with a lot of credit ang good luck to him whatever he decides

I hope he does retire. He was getting with with such easy against Carl, every shot was catching him flush, and he wasn't even attempting to slip or block them. No matter how tough you are, you can't go on taking that kind of punishment.

What about this talk of a film being made about his life, won't he earn some money for that?

An autobiography seems in order, let's hope he does one and makes some money from it, it would certainly be an interesting read, though I suspect a lot of what he said would be unprintable.

Film requires funding, but I doubt he'd make enough to live o from that, would he?

Come on, we all want a rematch if Gomez can fight like that 1 more time. Not sure if Johanesson and Maloney would want another go, as they did their homework and got the great win.

Big question would be can gomez improve? He'd only fought 6 rounds against poor opposition (no offence lads) prior to the fight, so I dont see why he can't build on friday, have Bobby iron out some weknesses and come again. One thing I did notice was his tendancy to guard his chin, but not his head.

re-match with peter McDonagh would be a good move, he needs to clear that one up. Very Winnable fight , and would probably get him a good payday in manchester or ireland.
