The Gomez vs Johanneson fight reminded me of some other highly charged affairs and just started to wonder of the whereabouts of a few crowd pleasing fighters.

Chas Symonds - I don't think he has fought since that very heated domestic dust up with Ross Minter in an absolute Cauldron of an atmosphere - has he retired.

Billy Corcoran - At one stage I predicted big things for Billy, he is a favourite of mine - I believe he had a low key (and generally dissapointing showing) vs Steve Gethin in April - so obviously a bit premature to be wondering if he has called it a career, but wasn't he scheduled to rematch with Sean Hughes for a domestic Featherweight title (or Eliminator).

Feel free to add some others - but if anyone knows the whereabouts then I'll be greatful.

Danny Hunt last fought in may 2006 when he lost because of cuts, has he called it quits now?

Also, Richard Williams and Steve conway have both been inactive since December last year. What are their plans?

While I am at it, what happened to Ryan Kerr? He hasn't fought since March 2006 when he drew his second fight in a row in defence of his English title, he was still unbeaten at the time.

i've almost forgotten about him.

Chas Symonds was working abroad after his loss to Minter, but he was supposed to have been starting a comeback last year, but the bill got cancelled. And i think he just lost interest after that.

Riddick Bowe - has he officially retired (for good)?

David Walker - anyone know what he's up to now? I know he made a brief comeback earlier this year, one fight i think but havent heard anything since.

I used to love watching him, along with the rest of Hennessy's class of 2002, Thirlwall, Corcaran, Froch etc

i had never heard of Danny Hunt before he got in a fight with that French journeyman (?) who turned out to be game as a pebble.
the way he was attired (sparkly silver shorts) and a following of about a couple hundred fans away from home, together with the way he was in tears afterwards (first defeat ?) - i had the impression he obviously must've been an up and comer who I had just missed.
Never seen him since, I've wondered a couple times what happened. Heart seemed in it judging by the reaction to defeat.

Jackson Asiku seems to have fallen off the face of the earth, unfortunately.

He was the mandatory for the English Super Middleweight title, if he was desperate for fights he should have taken that one, unless he couldn't make the weight.

I always enjoyed watching James Hare from Huddersfield - He is still only 31, but I think he has called it a day - Thought he had a chance against David Barnes but after losing I think he lost heart - Tough division.

He's not British, but i was looking through the schedule for this weekend earlier and see that Donovan Boucher is fighting aged 46.

He made a comeback earlier this year after an 11 year lay-off.

Does anyone remember him from his fights with Crisanto Espana and Eamonn Loughran?

The problem is the sport in general, not the boxers, and the situation with Promotors and TV deals, in some cases the lack of TV deals.
I know from personal experience that there are many boxers totally frustrated at the lack of fighting oppertunities.
When there is no Tv available, it is very difficult to put a bill together that leads to break even let alone a profit.
Indeed on occasions it's even a struggle to book a venue.
When there is TV available it is only the boxers on the top of their game that get on.
It's like snakes and ladders - keep winning, and selling the tickets and you're on a ladder, lose or don't get the support, you're on a snake.
It is impossible for the likes of SN to keep the whole of their stable happy - too few fight nights.
Added to that if you do fight, but no TV but put on a scintillating performance who gets to know about it ?
This is where the likes of Stegsie do a great job keeping the likes of VIP in the shp window - but beyond the boxing purists who would ever know ?
It's a business and everyone's in it for a profit.
Some of the boxers mentioned earlier in this thread are suffering for the reasons I've outlined - not because they are past it or not up for it.

Always wondered what happened to Danny Hunt - I remember him getting the big build up, with McGuigan spouting he was the English ODH...

he wasn't really going anywhere in my book, and the ease at which he cut maybe played some part in why he isn't fighting at the moment.

Boucher made a decent living on these shores wins over Jacobs, Laing, Hughes and Wright. Before running into Loughran, this was probably Loughrans most impressive win.

From fightnews, an update on one of my favourite young prospects - Martin Lindsay. He won on the undercard of Steve Molitor's title defence.

Martin Lindsay of Brampton Ontario via Belfast Ireland scored a 100-90 victory on all three scorecards over Uriel Barrera (12-2 6KO) capturing the IBF featherweight youth championship.

Does anyone know if this is a permanent move over to Canada or just temporary??

Is Glenn Catley carrying on with his comeback?
