Mundine rips Fenech!
By Ray Wheatley -- World of Boxing
WBA super middleweight champion Anthony Mundine has accused former three time world champion Jeff Fenech of being jealous of his ring achievements after Fenech picked former WBC light heavyweight champion Jeff Harding to knock out Mundine in a 'dream fight' in the boxing publication "Ray Wheatley's World of Boxing." Mundine said, "I've got a lot of respect for Jeff Harding. I think he was a great champion, but when you bring my name into to it, and you're constantly bagging me it shows you are out to derail me. He (Fenech) is a limited fighter. All he had going for him was fitness and determination..."

After almost losing sight in his left eye in August, Mundine resumed training and hopes to fight before the end of the year. (More)

If Harding caught Mundine sweetly it'd be all over I'd say

As for Anthony's assessment of Fenech............

jeff harding would just be too much for mundine i think and after copping numerous flogging around the head for 11 or so rounds his jam tart would fall out his arse, sometimes it would seem the flashiest fighters have a genuine dislike for being hit

What has Mundine acheived?

2 time world champion? Pleeeeaaaase.

That sort of crap works for the masses Anthony, but don't expect boxrec readers to swallow that crap.

Yo may oneday be the champion that Jeff was but you are no where near it yet.

I agree with pretty much everything posted so far.

But this is another example of how strange these polls are. There are five (six if you include me) people that have posted giving Harding the nod yet the poll is 3-2 :-?

The main difference between Harding and Mundine was that Jeff could take a punch as well as throw one. He was one of the toughest fighters Australia ever produced.

That Anthony Mundine could say Fenech was rubbish is evidence of his separation fron reality. Fenech was a World Champion in three divisions and if not for some cloud cuckoo judging in Nevada would have been champion in four.

Jeff never sucked a medical contact lens either  .

Well said, Mundine has more "potential" than most fighters but potential is a dirty word, as without a determined work ethic the potential goes nowwhere. Harding and Fenech had no where near the natural athletism that Mundine has however I would say they both had a much bigger heart and they achieved REAL sucess in the ring, winning real titles not some bull shit interim or second tier title - WBA regular champ.

Mundine could have been this countries Oscar De Lahoya in terms of popularity but he his ego is to big and he is just a dick head,

Harding would give Mundine a beating, Could you imagine a guy like Siaca going more than 5 rounds with Harding. Harding would have beaten Ottke to in my opinion and would have Kessler in a life or death struggle if they fought.
Fenech is another level above Mundine, Fenech was rated as a P4P fighter at the time of the Nelson fight and achieved far more than Mundine will ever do.

I can't help but think back to when Fenech had a shot at Harding when he split with Johnny Lewis. Maybe it was just Fenech's loyalty to Johnny but he tore into Harding's style. Harding went on to be the first Aussie to win the same World title twice.

Well I geuss that is something Mundine has emulated. I mean how many people have won the WBA 'regular' super middleweight title twice?

If you look at the fighters Harding beat and what they achieved, I think you would have to agree he beat better fighters than Mundine did. Andries was the only fighter to KO him and Harding beat him in their other two fights. Giovannini went on to be WBO Cruiserweight champion after Harding beat him twice, Mike "Bodysnatcher" McCallum beat Harding to end Harding's second reign, then said Harding was the toughest man he ever fought. Fair compliment. Both of Harding's losses were to World Champions.
