Has anyone heard from or seen him lately? He was one of the all-time great action fighters, and I hope his health is good.

Also, if anyone could talk about the Chacon-Limon rivalry and whatever started it that would be great.

My favorite Bazooka Limon memory was when he pulled down Sharmba
Mitchells trunks during a fight......

Bazooka was a an artfully dirty fighter who was a good puncher but also very crafty...

I saw his fourth fight with Bobby Chacon...which is regarded as the best of the series....with Bobby Pulling it out on a 15th round knockdown..

He also had a great brawls with Rolando Navarette and Conielius Boza Edwards

He gave Arguello a pretty decent tussle too...but was badly cut up in the end

Terrible.
The amount of punches that a fighter can take even going 4 rounds can leave a guy walkin on his heels for a few hours. Theres a buzz that sometimes takes a while to go away.
limon took a helluva lot of shots.
I heard Chacon is in bad shape also.

this is why the sport needs a union.

Reminds me of Kirkland Lang :( ending up sleeping on park benches and becoming a major drug addict.

Speaking of Union, I heard years back Gerry Cooney was trying to start something like that. Anyone hear about that? Or was that given up on?

cooney is still working on it.he has enlisted several former fighters to help raise awareness.some fighters who have endorsed gery's cause are
larry holmes,marvin hagler,ray mancini,and earnie shavers.

gerry has turned into what his nickname was when he was a fighter
a true gentlemen

I think Alex Ramos has started an exboxers union as well and they help exfighters out the best they can... but there funds are limited... what needs to happen is for some of the high profile promotors to put a decent amount of money into a fund for exboxers, especially exfighters who have health problems or are homeless etc... with all the money which is made through boxing there really should be something done... also fighters shouldnt be allowed to carry on fighting when their skills have eroded... look at Limons record, he was still fighting in the early 90s and losing... those final fights certainly wouldnt have done him any good...

USA Today ran a story about him a few years ago. It scared the fuck out of me. Limon was picking up aluminum cans to make money. I was on a message board like this one, and no one seemed to care. I told them to imagine that happening to Arturo Gatti in 15 years.

Maybe he was before their time, but the guy is one of my favourites and it breaks my heart that he's gone that way.... one of the toughest and bravest and most exciting fighters I've seen... his 4th fight with Chacon is a true classic.... One thing surprised me about him was in a KO magazine article from the early 80s when he said that he didnt even like fighting much, but it was the best way he knew to make money... I respected him even more after that, imagine showing so much heart in the ring when you dont even particularly enjoy it...

Imagine if DLH would open his piggy bank for this cause. He’s a high profile promoter and a fighter, so it doesn’t seem like there’s anybody better to help.

Cooney runs the F.I.S.T. organisation to help ex-boxers I cant find the website at the moment.

Alex Ramos does the same thing with.
