Barker fights for Commonwealth Middleweight Title “Someones "0" has to go”

Darren Barker will face Australia’s Ben Crampton for the vacant Commonwealth Middleweight Title at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Wednesday, November 14th.

Also on the Hennessy Sports show in association with title partners GoldenPalace.net is the English Light-Welterweight Title fight between Lenny Daws (Morden) and Nigel Wright (Hartlepool). Sky Sports will televise.

Barnet banger Barker has built up an impressive professional record since winning a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2002.

Barker returned after a spell out of the ring with an impressive third round stoppage of Greg Barton earlier this month and faces another unbeaten opponent in Crampton next month.

“This is a great chance for Darren to win his first major title as a professional after looking so good in his last fight,” said promoter Mick Hennessy. “He is an incredible talent and this will be a continuation of things for him, fighting for the Commonwealth Title after he won the Commonwealth Gold Medal for England.”

Crampton has won all 20 of his fights, while Barker has stopped ten of 15 opponents.

Daws-Wright is a rematch of their thrilling British Title clash last year.

Also in action on the bill are Matthew Thirlwall (Bermondsey), George Hillyard (Canning Town) and Geard Ajetovic (Liverpool).

Wellington's back!! Good luck to Darren, he has had some hard times to cope with and even though i have never seen Crampton i am sure Darren can do the business.

good fight Crampton's 20-0-1 record is built on what isn't always the best opposition but generaly its looking okay and is deffinatly a step up and deffinatly a good fight.

With all due respect to the Aussies but (as most on their forum tend to agree) some of there fighters are built up on a diet of mediocre fighters and Asian imports. The parasite WBF title is the OZ curse, as the WBU is to us Brits. Crampton though will be probably be the stereotypical Australian...not the best technically but tough as nails and hard to pin down.

Barker is a great fighter and after his recent personal tragedy, i wish him all the very best

I hope it works out for Barker. He's possibly the UK's most exciting talent. I can't wait for this one.

I take it Sky are showing this instead of the Steeds vs Ross cruiserweight bout. Good show.

Good match-up for barker and you have to remember he has been out for a while and in only his 2nd fight of his "comeback" he is fighting for the commonwealth title - thats not bad going. I think if he keeps improving he'd give the european champ Sebastian Sylvester a good run for his money - maybe even beat him in about five fights time. Sylvester is decent but looked really fragile last time I saw him when he regained his euro title from that fin bloke who's name alludes me....
Talent-wise I'd say he's better than Elcock but needs some tough learning fights so as to gain more seasoning. With Lockett, Elcock, Paul Smith,maybe Rhodes(I know he plans to move to LM), Mcdermott, Macklin and now Barker the domestic middleweight scene is not looking too bad. Now all thats left is the simple matter of making the matches.....

Good luck to Darren - No way of knowing how good Crampton is because all his fights have been in Oz except for one in the States.

Some televised boxing on a Wednesday. Interesting. Hope the viewing figures are good, I think boxing could do well in a midweek slot.

It's starting to "happen" now for Barker.

A good win and his career could really gather some championship momentum. There should be no shortage of challengers for defences if he's successful.

Amin Asikainen. I'm a touch confused though as Sylvester was challenging for the title in a rematch was he not? He looked fragile when Asikainen dropped him in the 2nd but the most part he looked quite good i thought, although as usual a bit of foul play for the ending. Whacking his man blatantly on the back of the head took all the fight out of Asikainen.

I think Sylvester was frustrating Asikainen in their rematch.

Definitely a lot for Barker if things go well for him, domestically and in Europe.

There are some good Aussie fighters, but at the higher weights they're usually fed a steady stream of 8-3-1 type Thai fighters, so I'd expect this to be a very winnable fight for Barker.

On the brief subject of Aussie fighters, was a shame that Daniel Geale pulled out against Daniel Dawson. Both unbeaten...Boxer V Slugger...bit of needle. Could have been a good one.
