Over on his website Audley says he's out for 6 months due to the injuries he suffered in a car crash, he injured his right hand and left pectoral.

He says he still has the desire to come back strong - me I'm not too sure as he'll be 36 tomorrow and never fought at a decent level, I think its dam near impossible to get a run at any world title now, the young hungry Russians would chew him up IMO.

What are your thoughts?

Wednesday 24th October 2007. Audley Harrison undergoes hand surgery and pectoralis repair


Following the recent vehicle crash in Vero Beach whilst training for a fight, Audley Harrison suffered injuries to his right hand and his pectoralis.

Shortly after the incident, Audley visited orthopaedic hand surgeon James W. Vahey MD who placed Audley’s right hand into a cast to treat two fractured bones. Audley had sustained a small fracture at the base of his second metacarpal and a fracture of the dorsal lip of his carpal hamate during the crash. Dr Vahey recommended a two week period of cast immobilisation followed by two additional weeks of splint immobilisation but Audley will actually be in case for four weeks, three of which have already passed.

On October 23rd Audley saw Stephen Lombardo, MD at the Kerlan & Jobe Surgical Center and underwent successful left pectoralis repair. Audley will be in a sling for six weeks and start his rehabilitation programme for six months. He is expected to return to the boxing ring in 6-8 months.

Audley commented: “This is a really tough blow to suffer. I was really looking forward to working with Dennis Hobson and getting back in the ring again. I am out for a long time and although the mountain keeps getting higher, I still have the desire and the fight to climb it. I will complete my rehabilitation programme and return to the ring as soon as all my injuries have healed.”

Gutting, didn't realise the extent of his injuries from the car crash. Glad to read that Audley still has the desire to climb the ever increasing mountain, we haven't heard the last of Our Audley!

Audley needs to learn to lose his rag in the ring a bit more, he possesses the physical attributes to give ANYONE problems. Although not very likely at this stage. I am inclined to believe Audley is just kidding us all on to keep himself on the map.

6-8 months out! By my calculations that means hes got 6 months from when he steps back in the ring to become Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Of The World!

Theres that many washed up big names out there that it'll only take 2 or 3 wins to get a title shot. But get a move on!

The Pec injury sounds like he may have seperated the muscle from the bone, a body builder I know was out for the same amount of time with it.

Bad luck for him but he's going nowhere, this is a guy who's fallen short domestically and bragged of undisputed titles!

I don't know whether to weep or vomit, Chambers.

Whatever those clinging on to the utter fantasy that Audley might one day make it to the summit of the heavyweight division may think, here's a reality check: it's not going to happen.

Unfortunately, despite his great physical attributes and the skill he exhibited in a very weak Olympic super-heavyweight division, the fact of the matter is that he simply does not have the tools to hack it as a professional heavyweight.

Those that insist on parking their arses in the (ever more detached from reality) dream world in which Audley can attain success as a professional heavyweight have made the crucial mistake in assuming he has the ability, as demonstrated by his Olympic success and his physique, and believe he only has to put that ability to its full use in order to reach his goals.

Whatever one's reaction to Harrison's ludicrous public persona, there is no getting around the fact -- and it is a fact -- that all evidence thus far has pointed not just to a poor application of ability -- although for much of his career that much has been true -- it also illustrates that he really doesn't have the enough ability to apply at all; that is, even if he managed to reach his full current potential, it wouldn't take him beyond domestic level. He can't make his size or southpaw stance count, he hasn't proven he's able to fight for 2 minutes of 12 rounds, he can't hold a punch, he can't put his skills together on a consistent basis, he doesn't have one punch knockout ability, and he can't find the right balance between adventure and caution.

Sorry to pop the increasingly absurd bubble of those still clinging on to the dream, but he's been beaten three times by fighters of a quality way short that of even today's champions, and even if he was 30 I would argue he really didn't have it in him to make it. But he's not 30, he's 36, getting older and slower all the time, with a track record of lengthy ring absences, and clearly finding it more difficult to recover from injuries.

If he had sense, he'd give up the ghost. And so would you, Chambers.

Now he's going to blame his car accident for not being the undisputed World Heavy Weight Champion. Instead of course. His balls, Power, Chin, technique and pretty much every flaw you can have in boxing.
