Boxrec Hall of Fame Ballot (November 2007)
Posted: 01 Nov 2007, 12:45
by Ambling Alp
It's time for another Hall of Fame Election. The deadline for submitting a ballot is Noon CDT on November 15, 2007. I will total the ballots shortly after that.
A brief summary of the rules:
-A voter can vote up to 25 names. (If you vote for more than 25, your entire ballot doesn't count.)
-A fighter's last fight has to be before November 15, 1997 to be eligible.
-You can change your vote. Your last vote before the deadline will be the one counted.
-Candidates who are named on atleast 75% of the ballots are elected.
Go to the Boxrec Hall of Fame Sticky (p.2) for more complete rules.
To vote, just list your selections on this thread. (Don't put them on the Hall of Fame Sticky.)
It would be appreciated if you list your selections in alphabetical order.
It would be great if some regular posters who didn't post last time would vote this time and some new posters will vote this time. It's a lot of fun.
So far there had a been a good variety of fighters from different era's, weight class, styles, etc. Hopefully that will continue.

This will be an enormous satisfaction for the South American boxing fans to have this pioneers in the Hall of Fame; there are few South American fighters in the HOF only due the boxing history of this part is not well known

Ï always vote for the greatest British fighter of all time, the immortal Bert Gilroy but he never seems to make the cut.
I urge you all to vote for this overlooked legend of yesteryear and allow him to take his rightful place with the other legends.
God bless you all.

Marginalizing Gilroy is one thing... it's amazing how you can allow facts & circumstances for hundreds of fighters spoken of here on these boards Collins but you always take a dig at Gilroy - you are one of those people who 'can't' bring themselve to admit what was done to him, must be the English thing eh Collins - 'dis' Bert before admitting that "because of English National pride" he was CHEATED out of title & legacy, He must have been some fighter to have been side-stepped by how many was it (?) 5 of Britain's greatest ever, and also reported by some of Britain's greatest as being the next world champion (Wilde, Clarke, Hurst, Henderson and the 'immortal' American Charley Rose as well as others yet) BUT to start 'mocking' the Almighty; well now your heading into a dangerous level of a Foolish Low!

A Foolish Low?
That's how I view your tripe like when you claimed Bert deserves to be ranked ahead of Ken Buchanan on the Best Scot's Boxer Ever list. I suppose if we disregard accomplishments then that is possible, Jim. Should we do that? Disregard actual accomplishments in favour of fantasy, Jim? Wouldn't that be the ultimate in disrespect?

No disrespect intended and I understand your bias for South American fighters, but do you think that Mauro Mina, Jose Carattoli, and Angel Rodrigues should be inducted before fighters like Carlos Ortiz?

Hi, Borinken!
You're right, but, until I knows, Carlos Ortiz is in the HOF in level C, and the other boys, until now, aren't in no one level
Thanks!

Martin- You may be confused about something, and I will try to clear it up.
A while back, we had a thread about rating the Hall of Famers. This was concerning fighters in the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
All of the fighters were grouped in 5 groups, A being the best, E being the worst. Ortiz was label a "C', which is average for a Hall of Famer.
This is something completely different from our Boxrec Hall of Fame. The Boxrec Hall of Fame is something we do for fun. We vote for the fighters that we think are the most deserving to be in the Hall of Fame, regardless if they are in the International Boxing Hall of Fame or not.
I don't want to tell you who to vote for. However, I would urge you to vote for who you think are the 25 best fighters (that have been retired for at least 10 years) that aren't already in the Boxrec Hall of Fame.
I agree with you that many South American fighters don't get the recognition that they deserve. However, I urge you not to vote for anyone who you don't think is one of the 25 best fighters not already in.
If the 25 fighters that you voted for are in your opinion the best 25, then that's fine. However, it seems from your last comments that you really think that Ortiz (and perhaps others) are better than some of the fighters that you voted for.
If that is the case, I would strongly urge you to change your vote. You can just edit it or simply vote again and we will just count your last vote.
I hope this makes sense to you. If not, let me know what you don't understand.
