Calzaghe V Kessler: Ongoing Thread Throughout The Night

Sorry to be pretentious but as these big nights progress we often get lost in a wave of topics. So as the night progresses hopefully we can all discuss Setanta, undercard fights, all the action and thoughts, people can do round by rounds etc together as one happy Boxrec family :TU:

The Calzaghe highlights reel at the beginning wreaked of Rawling doing a voice over job. The only fight he had any genuine enthusiasm on was the Lacy fight because it was genuine live commentary.

Just watching some of the previews from the last few days that I've been saving on Sky+. Starting to look forward to the fight very much now.

First going out with the missus for something to eat, then to my local to get bladdered (it's the guvnors birthday! :TU: ) then stagger home at about 1 to 1.30am to watch the big one and post complete and utter bollox on this thread!

I bet Sky charged them the full monty for those clips they bought. Good that Setanta bothered to do that though, Sky wouldn't do that sort of thing most of the time.

Exactly. If it wasn't on Sky it didn't happen!

They haven't given it much on Sky Sports News at all...

Yep exactly what I was thinking. They would show Eubank against a taxi cab driver, and not mention that Roy Jones or Toney where fighting the same night.

Sounds like you've got a good plan going there Goz - I'm at home with four kids still racing around upstairs. It'll be a brandy or two for me I reckon, around midnight :TU:

I wouldn't be surprised if Sports Network had rights to them, but possibly have to use a different voice-over. Just guessing from the Hatton DVD I bought which featured his SN fights which were shown on Sky, but with non-Sky commentary. Some of the commentary on that is Rawling.

yeah, almost every Calzaghe fight was commentated by Darkie and McCrory. feels very fake. just watching Calzaghe-Lacy re-run. Reminds me how much I was thrilled by that performance and how much I don't want him to win this one. His handspeed is amazing - his shots like something out of wing chun kung fu, whipping shots from the elbow/forearms - and makes me think of that Manga FIST OF THE NORTH STAR. Where those guys do those speeded up flurries and time slows down and the other guy stands there doig nothing (before his brain falls out or he bleeds to death, etc).

But those wide arm punches won't work in this fight. Vs Lacy it was like beating off a mugger. Vs Kessler it's going to be a purer boxing match & the Dane could make him pay for it. Also, the way he leaves his head up in the air and the way Joe dips his head makes me think he's going to catch too many shots.

It's all good MW! Can't do the big fights from the US these days, 4/5am just messes me up too much but 2am I can do so I'm looking forward to staying up for a big fight for once!

My missus has a bun in the oven herself so come next April such 'wild' nights before the boxing will be a thing of the past I guess!

Mine has a bun in the oven too. She suddenly announced at 6pm she wanted to spend the night in a hotel where her friends wedding is taking place. I just laughed my head off and she huffed off upstairs to bed leaving me with the lounge as my own domain for the night. Couldn't have planned it better myself :TU:

Yep I struggle to stay up for the US fights these days, Goz, it's gotta be a classic for me to bother now - Hatton/Floyd is a must though.

I've only got two kids, the other two are on a sleepover - and I haven't got the heart to send em off to bed....YET.

Well as the old Times boxing writer used to say, in a close match, always back the man with less tatoos.

So has your missus gone to bed or a hotel?

Watching the Lacy rerun just reminded me I hope Duke isn't commentating tonight.

To bed, maybe a hotel later if relations deteriorate!

Mighty Warrior you made an epic mistake having nippers over for a sleepover tonight 8)

Hmmm, it was my wife who agreed naturaly, then decided to go out for the night herself - too late by the time I found out!

As long as they're asleep by midnight I'm all good - gonna switch over for awhile now and check back in awhile - watching that BRITZ from the other night - classy stuff.

I'm not arsed with the Lacy fight replay, i have Echols V Zuniga on from the Hatton-Castillo undercard fight i never watched at the time. Flip me Echols is shot!

Jay Nady should have stopped it. Duke was on his usual form, one jab and Echols stepped back to Duke's howls of "He's gone John he has nothing left, it's all over". Suffice to say he survived and lost over 10. For anyone who has forgotten :D

I missed that, I got blitzed and passed out, had to be woken up for the hatton fight, nearly a disaster :o

Cleverly wide open to that overhand right, would not be surprised to see him tasting the canvas sometime soon.
