Let's just hope they don't include an equestrian. After all, it's the most popular sport in Britain!!

I'm glad the Beeb are showing it.

We are missing too much boxing on terrestrial TV these days.

I know Setanta Sports is on Freeview, but I don't see why I should have to buy a card to plug into the back of my telly.

I might as well get Sky or Virgin Media if they want me to do that!

Plus you'd get all the US fights live on Sky or Virgin. For us poor FreeViewers we have to wait until the repeat showing the next day. Which often also means we don't get the undercard unless the fight is stopped early.

If that's the so-called big announcement about Calzaghe, then that's a fcuking joke! It's allvery well the BBC showing the fight now, but why didn't they try to get the rights to show it live? No good showing now!

In respect of Sport's personality of the year, Lewis Hamilton has got it sewn up! I hope Calzaghe/Hatton win the award, but I just cannot see it!

Wonder if Hamilton will be in Swizerland & appear via video link whenhe wins the award?

The BBC are no longer showing professional boxing, only amateur. So they would not have bid for the rights, as they don't have the mandate to do so from the top, BBC sport can no longer bid for individual fights, nor sign contract with professional promoters.

I didn't even see this on the BBC's own Boxing webpage today so it's hardly even big news to them.

I must say it was nice to see Joe getting the newspaper inches he deserves.

Good that a few people will be able to see it, did anyone see the guardian John Rawlling did his british top 10 of all time and put calzaghe's achivements at the top.

For me Lewis had much more difficult fights in a devision where you don't get a away with fighting no bodies for 8 years as champion.

11 years as Champion off and on! If you can call Joe a 10 year champion, then Lennox's pick up the title from the bin reign counts also.

Lewis beat the best, and with the help of Corrie Sanders (beating Wlad but losing to Vitali) he also beat the best of the next generation.

Lewis should still be ahead of Joe IMO. Not much in it, but I'd hope more people would say Lewis than Calzaghe.

Was this a post war opinion - cause it still has to be Jimmy Wilde #1. Wilde could be argued for the not just #1 Briton, but #1 of all time.

I'd have Calzaghe and Ted Kid Lewis fighting for the #3 spot - at this moment. December could change that.

definitely, lewis went after the big fights and was stifled by boxing politics. amazingly, after losing to mccall, he didn't get another shot until 3 years later. shocking really.

whereas obviously holding the WBO belt, Joe wasn't required to fight anyone. I suppose Veit and Mkrtchian are acceptable mandatories, and admit that Stieglitz wasn't worthy and that Markussen said no to a mandatory shot at Joe. But it doesn't compare to knocking out Andrew Golota or Razor Ruddock.

I wouldn't say Joe fought nobodys for 8 years - there was a sprinkling of ex champs like Reid, Brewer & guys like Sheika coming off decent wins (ie. Glen Johnson), throughout his career. My biggest objection has always been 2004 and 2005, where he didn't really do anything making many of us question how serious a champ he was. It seemed like Joe was ready to be a star after stopping Mitchell but we had to wait about 2.5 yrs...

He was talking post war. It was 1 Calz 2 LL 3 Conteh 4 Honeyghan 5 Buchanan 6 Turpin

No place for Ricky, yet, and LL not top cos lost to McCall and Rahman who were mediocrities, evn though he did hthem in rematches

For me here is no doubt that LL is the #1 British fighter, by a large margin.

I didn't read it and cannot imagine how he came to give away the Contender winner in that Lewis post
