I remember always looking forward to his fights on usa's tuesday night fights. He was an action fighter.Always ready and willing to go right at it and trade leather with anyone.Too bad his defense was virtually non-existent and his stamina was quite subpar. If he had just had better footwork and better stamina though,i think he would've went a ways further overall.
Even as he was,he would've made a great match for Tommy Morrison or Andrew Golota.Thunder vs. Joe Hipp would've been quite a battle as well.Too bad he could'nt capitolize on his weaknesses and become something more than a decent action style b grade fighter though.I always somehow felt that he could've become quite a bit better with better management perhaps.Definately always WAS,one of those fun to watch slugger/brawler types.

Jimmy always seemed to get knocked out when building momentum. Like many fighters he stayed in the game long after the writting was on the wall. He has brain damage now. His best wins were over former champions Berbick, Tubbs (controversial) and Witherspoon. However towards the end of his career he was being knocked out regularly.

A fun fighter to warch no doubt, especially the 13 second knockout over Craford Grimsley. Grimsley was so out he tried to give the ref a few jabs. The guy could bang pretty decently, but got knocked out whenever he truly stepped up. Had he been matched carefully I think he could have been a Heavyweight Arturo gatti.

Doesn't he sort of end up in the "Ed Mahone" catagory. Lot's of hype, some drama and results, then a fizzle? Joe Hipp was more interesting.

unfortunately that is where alot of HW "prospects" go. Look at someone like Courage Tshabalala. Wasnt he supposed to be a monster? Or even at lower weights, someone like Tukombo Olajide.

I have a few fights of Thunder, he always seemed exciting and at his peak would have given a lot of upper guys a tough fight.

The late 90s had a BUNCH of HW prospects who pretty much hit the wall after their first loss:

Robert Davis, Courage Tshabala, Erik Kirkland, Clifford Ettienne, Derek Bryant . . .
