Wasnt overly impressed with froch last nite, not sure if he is ever going to achive what he says he is, all this talk of calzaghe is madness needs to fight better calibre of apponent first,

how do you think he would get on against. Mundaine, bika, soliman, green, lacy????

Bika would be a great fight. Had Carl kept the Commonwealth title it would have been a really make sense kind of fight. Carl has the ability, but I think he's been hindered by injury. I take him to beat Bute. He can go the mandatory route.

Bika would beat him i feel, such a handful and so so strong...

I didn't see anything last night to suggest Froch could come close to beating Bute. Froch is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

Personally I don't really rate Froch, he's far too easy to hit IMO and hasn't fought anyone decent enough to really test him. He is a fairly decent hitter but apart from that I've not been too impressed with him so far.

Froch speaks about himself like he is truly up there with the best of them, that tells you how much faith he has in himself (Mind you Mr Harrison was exactly the f....ing same in that respect but I think he was hoodwinking everyone to get rich whereas I don't think Froch is).

but at times I thought Froch looked bone idle last night....and he can say what he likes about taking it easy building up rounds etc....he shipped a haymaker of a shot that would have floored him if he hadn't just taken some of the sting out of it by moving backwards.

Against a Bika he would not have the luxury of being allowed to do that and then maybe Calzaghe would be given a bit more credit for getting past a very tough customer without ever getting especially troubled.

Froch proved could he beat Reid but we knew that anyway - The interesting thing is Reid proved he could have Froch in trouble but just didnt have enough to finish him off - Calzaghe, Kessler, Lacy, Bute, or even Inkin would have gone for the kill at that point - Froch looked a worried man and his confidence subsided for a few moments - I have never seen Froch in that situation before and he looked very beatable - Surely anyone who faces Froch will see that and try to replicate the same - A very interesting 2008 when Froch moves up and hopefully takes on current world class rather than former - No way is he good enough to dominate the division and win 4 title belts as Calzaghe has - Mr. Kessler will make his comeback and do that thrashing Froch en route. :box: :D :D :D

Froch needs to box some European level fighters first he seems to be mixing it at Brit level a lot lately.
Although saying that he has bosed some pretty good foreigners too I suppose, Groenwald, that one he won in America, and Tatevosyan. I got the impression though that that bloke had had better days as a fighter from what people were saying but I was impressed with Froch nonetheless

Where exactly did Reid have Froch in serious trouble last night?

I must have missed it.

I saw him land 3 flush right hand punches on Frochs chin, but they did'nt really cause him too much problems.

"Reid did'nt have enough to finish him off"...Mate, he did'nt even have him in any serious trouble :TU:

Course he's not world-class, he might never be. What he is though, right now, is a contender shining in the public spotlight. It's exactly because we don't know how he'd fare against Calzaghe that we want to see them fight.

You've got the WBx champions, and then there are people's champions.

Maybe Froch wasnt in serious trouble but it was enough for say Calzaghe/Kessler to pounce - Froch was definately a bit worried at that point but got over it when RR didnt follow it up.

I suppose to answer the thread title ...

I think we are all too quick to call someone world class then to see that fighter fall flat on his face.

But I have to say at every stage of Carl Froch's career he has been brought along at exactly the right time in my view - whether it be by accident or not Froch has had the right tests at exactly the right moment - and if there is a fighter who could take over when Calzaghe, Hatton and Woods have gone - it is Carl Froch. And yes I did include Woods in the bracket of world class - he deserves to be there.

But back to Froch - I am going to confess as impressed as I was at Froch taking those shots from Reid - I am going to have to say I am ever so curious what would have happened if Reid was at his very best and able to follow up.

Froch's performance was good - let Hennessy put him in for the European Title - then perhaps he can further dispel the doubters out there.

I think Froch is a good fighter but reckon he'll get found out against the elite. For me he hasn't got the reflexes to get away with his lack of defense (in particular shipping too many clean rights), nor the one punch power for a style that relies mainly on loading up with single shots.

You are obviously a man who really knows his boxing, I read all your comments with interest - Froch was worried and Reid didnt capitalise so he got away with being in a difficult situation - At a higher level he wont.

After watching the fight last night I have to agree that Froch will probably only ever be good enough for a Euro title.... or a tame belt like the WBO

Yes Froch didnt enhance his position at all, instead he showed how beatable he is by a better opponent - I agree on the limits you have stated.

I think he's better than he showed vs Reid. Given that he blasted out Tatevosyan (who holds a win over sometime Euro champ Gogiya) and stopped Magee (apparently robbed vs the Euro class Tsypko), Froch has shown he's above Euro class and nosing into world.

I still think he had something wrong with one of his legs vs Reid. He didn't look right after Reid landed that 1 really good right hand which sort of turned him sideways.

Injuries and age have to be a concern though his power can keep him in a lot of fights.

I want to see the super middle New Generation. Froch vs Inkin or Bute.

errrr..he has recently had his anterior cruciate ligament repaired...hence the leg issue.

yes, and I thought it seemed to affect him in the fight with Reid from about round 3 or 4 on. something about his balance/legs looked all wrong.

Could it not be the punches he took - After all if the leg wasnt properly healed this would have been found out in training - He was fine until he got caught.

His leg was cool.

He was a bit nervy when Reid bundled him down, clinging to his knee.

It looked as though Carl stuck the knee into him on the floor, but in reality he was trying not to knock it. It's fully healed but i guess he's a bit paranoid and nobody could blame him.

From ringside it was same old Froch for us - he fights one level above his opponent.

The better the opponent, the better the display.

I agree though, no more Brits !!

Brahmer, Bute or Inkin for me please next... but NOT in Germany !!!

I want to see Carl do it the way he always said he would ... the traditional route - that means the European Title next.

I don't like the term World Class as its upto interpretation as to what that exactly means, but Carl wins world titles even though it's one of the most compeitivie divisions in boxing.

Carls performance wasn't his most polished, he got caught with some shots that he shouldn't have done, but none of them had him in any real trouble and I don't think his confidence was dented (as if it could be) at all during the fight.

Nobody has looked good in recent times when facing a fully fit Reid. Lacy pummelled him, but Reids preperation had been diabolical for that one, this time RR had had 10 weeks of training and he looked in very good shape. I know RR was way past his best, but hes got a solid chin and as soon as he felt Carls considerable power it was over.

The better the opponent the better Carl fights, bring on the BIG boys!!! I can't wait to see him in with the likes of Bute, Inkin, Kessler, Mundine, Bika, Braehmer, Andrade, Green etc. Carl is never in a bad fight, he'll give us plenty of excitement over the next 5 years, whilst he collects the belts

Froch-Calzaghe is the fight I want to see, but I can see why it's not going to happen. JC is after the BIG money clashes and even if he has to wait for his fight with Nard he is never going to choose Froch as a stop gap fight, because he knows Carl is very dangerous and that he'd get KTFO

Yes he is in the class capable of winning a world title, so i guess that makes him world class, depends how you rate it.

I think at the moment all the supermiddles are waiting to see if Calzaghe gives up his titles, they can all have a bun fight then over who's fighting who for them.
