Couldn't find a thread on this topic through the searcher but you know, we often hear about De La Hoya-Tszyu as one big fight of the 90's we never saw, how do you imagine a Tszyu-Trinidad bout would have gone, say, betwen 140 & 147.

This would obviously be before Trinidad fought Hopkins & probably a little before he met De La Hoya, so a loss here could hurt his marketability somewhat. Could Tszyu do it? You've got a pair of big --- though not elite-level --- punchers in there who accomplished a lot in their respective careers, before falling apart ominously in fights from which they never really recovered (Tszyu-Hatton, Trinidad-Hopkins).

Any theories?

Hats off to you buddy for a GREAT mythical match up!! As always with 2 punchers, i'd lay my money on the better catcher than the better hitter, i like the Russian.

Trinidad was a Top 20 Welterweight of All-Time. At this weight Trinidad psychologically had not yet fallen in love with his power and boxed to set up his power shots.

I think Tszyu is good, but he would be at a reach and overall size disadvantage. I see Trinidad stopping him.

Both fighters were good punchers, and at that weight they both seemed to be able to take a shot decently enough. I think that Tszyu was a better technical boxer, but to me Trinidad seems like the much bigger man. I could see Trinidad coming out and blasting Tszyu with some big shots early to take the beginning rounds and Tszyu coming on stronger as the fight progressed. I think I would take Trinidad by close decision, but you never know.

tszyu is one of my faveroute fighters but i think trinidad is to big for him but with tszyu you never know he can turn the lights out with one punch

Tszyu beat Vernon Forrest in the ams, and the height & reach difference is much greater there. Forrest can punch damn hard as well.

Tito could never have made 140, could he?

I reckon Tito is just too big and strong for Tzsyu, although pfp Tzsyu was the more competent boxer-puncher.

Trinidad with, or without the special hand wrapping techniques?

Trinidad was vulnerable to people that could move. Trinidad was also easy to hit with right hands. Kostya could move all four directions, and Tito could not. Kostya was harder to hit. Trinidad kept his weight over his left foot and bailed out left when he jabbed making him vulnerable to big right hands. Kostya's big punch was his right hand. Tito had more reach, but alot of that is negated because he kept his weight on his front foot and thus couldn't step properly when he punched and the shorter kostya kept his weight on his back foot and thus could step when he punched. That said, Trinidad was the bigger man, so at 147 he may still have the edge, but at 140, Tszyu puts on a boxing lesson. JMHO

P4P Tszyu was the better fighter although history won't show it. If they were both in their primes and at the same weight (physical impossibility since Trinidad was naturally much bigger) then the difference would be that Tszyu had a much better chin than Trinidad. Tszyu by KO

Tszyu had a great right hand which works very well vs southpaws; however, Trinidad was not southpaw and was naturally bigger. Tszyu would’ve lost by KO inside of 5 rounds.

Trinidad most probably would have KO'd Tsazu at welterweight. And Tszyu would have most probably KO'd Trinidad at 140. So what?

Prime Tito is just too expolisve for Tszyu.

Tszyu was better, but would never survive Trinidad at 147.

I assume this fight would be at 147, but I think it'd be wise for Tszyu to enter the fight no heavier than say 142 pounds. So that he could maybe use his superior boxing skills to control parts of the fight by being the smaller man. Trinidad could be troubled by boxers, but I think he could take Tszyu's shot for the most part in this bout wouldn't shock me if Tszyu could hurt him bad though given his track record. Ultimately though I'd say the fight would be decided with Tito getting frustrated at being outboxed and landed a low blow to take the legs away from a Tszyu a little. Getting inside and throwing jabs and rights to set up his monstrous left hook bomb in the hopes of ending the night, and end the night it will. In Round 8
