As far as Heavyweight goes, I believe Jerry Quarry was the greatest Heavyweight who never won the title.

In general, no question, it was Sam Langford.

When I was a kid in the 50's Langford was considered by many as the greatest fighter who ever lived.

Petrolle fought twice for the jr welter title. I think he also fought for the lightweight crown as well.

Petrolle lost a 15 rounder to Canzoneri for the title. Also, Grant, if I was leaning towards Aussie's, I like Hector Thompson even better than Mundine. Tremendous fighter and so unlucky to go against the greats. More outstanding contenders, Zora Folley, Jesus Pimental and Joe Medal.

I almost forgot this man, and am surprised nobody mentioned him, considering all he accomplished and done: Jack Blackburn 8)

I would also say 'Barbados Demon' Joe Walcott, but I think he in fact held a title of sorts(?)

Three greats who deserve mention:
Charle White
Lew Tendler
Ace Hudkins

You're correct about the lightweight title fight. 15 decision loss to Canzoneri. JR. Welter fights? Was one with Johnny Jadick?
