Everyone, please take a minute to sign the petition that the below link leads to. It's to try and get something done about getting retired boxers a pension plan, which is long, long overdue.

We need to get 5000 signatures!!!!

Most every sport in the United States has a pension program for its retired players...all except boxing...and there are few, very few sports which ask so much of its players. It's very sad that those who are really in a position to fix this problem, those who have the power, means and money, have not even attempted to remedy it regardless of all that the sport and it's fighters have given them. And if those in power are not going to get it done…then it’s our duty to do what is nothing but right!

Just remember...these retired fighters truly changed all of our lives as they are the reason that we all love this sport of boxing so much...let us see if we can't help to change their lives for the better and help give some back for all that they gave to us through the years!!!

I typically take the view that elite-level sport stars earn enough priviledge & money to take care of themselves, with not much sympathy from me when they complain about how hard their lives are, but boxing is & can be an exception. There are just too many genuine hard-luck stories to ignore, & sadly it's often the nice guys of the sport who are hit (Joe Louis, Ezzard Charles, Gerald McClellan etc.).

I signed it, make sure you do to. & leave a brief message while you're visiting. This is important folkes.

If you meant the folks who are taking care of Gerald I'm with you. Since they are the ones suffering the hardships and certainly are caring people.

Others may debate the "nice guy" status of Gerald pre injury. However I'm firmly with the folks that think an extra dollar per ticket is easily sensible to begin to address this need.

The sad thing about boxing is that probably only around 3 to 5 percent of boxers ever make any kind of good money. Most fight for pennies and never make anything in terms of securing a future, which is why a pension is so badly needed.
