david haye the heavyweight

finally after years of sub standard heavyweights in this country we finally have a fighter of genuine world class who will go after the heavyweight title.
david hayes story now could be very big , the best cruiserweight in the world now going to his more natural weight to fight the big guys.
not since lennox lewis have we had a heavyweight who we actually believe could do some damage in boxings greatest division. david haye is a big man , he has a big punch and i think next year haye should be fighting against the top 10-20 rated heavyweights...around 4-5 fights if possible for david to mature into a natural heavy against good international rated fighters.
then by the start of 2009 i think david should be let loose on the top10...probably a title shot somewhere in that year aswell.
the state of the heavyweights at this time is poor so david hayes timing is perfect.
i look forward to the david haye story in 2008 to see how he progresses.
ps: who do you think haye should fight first at heavyweight???
i go for michael sprott..who will be a decent test for 3-4 rounds

Personally, I'd like him to avoid the round robin of British fights. It's like being trapped in some cyclical sci fi world that just keeps going round and round. Like that '70s series, Children of the Stones, where the story goes round in a loop.
IMO European level guys and novetly fights. Get a Euro ranking, go 12 rds vs a durable guy, and then beat on an ex cruiser champ like Bell or Davis.
Great that there is a genuine world class Brit at heavyweight. I think he won a lot of ppl over vs Bonin, which was pretty spectacular despite not telling us THAT much about him. (I mean, Joe Mesi didn't do much after starching DeVarryl Williamson). But Haye has some nice speed, punch delivery etc that will become very evident vs some of these cumbersome guys.

I wonder if he'll try and go for the European title as he did at Cruiser, I hope so because the belt needs returning to rightful location in Britain. I think he should target a decent european ranked opponent such as Hoffman/Sprott/Vidoz/(Akinwande???)/McBride

Has Haye ever been out cold as an Ametre, I know he hasn't as a pro.

Yes against Twite (as I remember) at the end of a very long and hard tournament (Worlds/Olympics????)

I think he went into the final with an injury after a very hard Semi and I think he got sparked, I've not seen it though so I may be mistaken. I seem to recall Haye giving us an explanation (on here or the Doghouse)of what happened a few years ago

Havent we discussed this at length? Why do we keep calling the heavies a 'roundabout'? Thats only because no guy could maintain a winning run.
From a PR stand point, Haye v Audley Harrison would get big attention in 08. If Skelton picks up the European title, Haye will have to go through him.
Personally, i dont know if Haye is durbale or tough enough to make it past fights with Sprott and especially Danny Williams.
Most cruiserweight titlists no matter how classy have come up short at heavy.

I'm amazed you don't think he'll beat Sprott and Danny, I think Hayes punch power would be the deciding factor rather than his supposed lack of durability

Come on mate Williams would of knocked out Bonin in 1 rd, and Sprott would of got him out of there at some point too.
These are big strong experienced guys who have mixed in at world class, do you honestly think they'll lay down for David Frickin Haye?

I think it could be lucrative. But I also think he could have any # of lucrative fights. Especially while he still holds the cruiser titles, which wil make fights easier to advetrtise. "A ten round heavyweight attraction featuring the current worl cruiser champion." Has a nice ring to it. I seem to remember Haye saying he doesn't want to get caught up in the UK heavyweights.
I'd rather see him vs Greenberg. It might be because I'm masochistic. But I just think that Greenberg at least has something ahead of him, unlike Aud or Danny.
IMo Williams might well have made a long chewy meal out of a guy like Bonin. Like Harrison did.
if I were managing haye, I'd get him some world class cruisers for him to knock out at around 210-lbs. Bell would be a good 'un. Showtime would buy that, I'll bet.

Listen, I feel all warm and fluffy inside to think we've got another undisputed champion. It's especially gratifying that we've got a man who's never been afraid to risk it all in a sport where risk aversion, untill recently, has been the standard.
Furthermore, Haye has thrill-a-minute potential at heavyweight.
But aren't we getting ahead of ourselves here? Aren't we forgetting something?
Haye won the title, and I'm filled with nothing but admiration, but was it not a mediocre performance against an opponent who put in an exteremely disappointing performance? I know that's how I see it.
Haye deserves all the credit in the world. He had the balls to go fight away from home. He had the balls to fight the number one guy away from home, probably for the thin end of the financial wedge. He had the balls to squeeze down to cruiserweight one more time to do it, when he could have probably made just as much, against worse fighters, without the gastronomic privation, in the heavyweight division. He had the balls to get off the deck and guts it out when he was badly rocked. All credit to him.
But come on: That fight left every single question about Haye unanswered. Mormeck put in an awful performance.
That fight tells us nothing we didn't know, which reduces those who think Haye's nailed on to be a heavyweight champ as people of faith.

I think it might even have been a jab. It was not a great shot either way.

im not so sure danny would have taken bonin out in the same explosive style as haye did, and i'm sure sprott wouldn't. anyone who can last 9 with audley could probably last at least 5 with danny.
remember danny was in huge trouble in the 3rd with keith long, no puncher, and that was much closer to danny's prime than now. you saying haye can't badly hurt williams with those lightning, accurate heavy shots? plus williams porous defence I easily see him getting starched.
not saying he couldn't get starched himself though, obviously.

how can it tell us nothing about Haye at all? He beat a world class pressure fighter despite being dead at the weight. He showed he could smother a man's pressure, push him off and find the right distance (in his good rds). Cruisers are big men and this was a big men's fight. Knockdowns, big punches, knockouts, big guys suffering heavy falls. Mormeck had his body battered and this is what made him collapse. Haye's plan reduced the champ to rubble, to I'm afraid it tells us a lot about Haye. I really hate these dramatic I've seen nothing comments.
haye's proven himself world class and there's no reason he can't replicate that at heavyweight. take the right fights, build up skills and achieve something in a division that - like any other - has 4 champs and a division that despite having bigger stronger guys, has slower guys with more porous defenses. look on the bright side. it's the shots you don't see - like Mormeck's right-left over Haye's jab, that give trouble. OK, the heavies will hit harder, but they won't place the shots as accurately (Povetkin notwithstanding, stay the eff away from him) and you can see them coming better and he won't be drained.
His career has already been a triumph of doing things the honest, direct way. Winning a proper title in thrilling fashion when his peers have to have late subs shipped over to their backyards.

I don't think they'll have much choice, neither have got great chins and Haye is a very BIG puncher even at HW IMO. Haye knocks them both out. I don't think Danny would have KO'd Bonin in the first

I think Haye will make some waves on the world scene at heavy, but he's going over as soon as he gets tagged by a big puncher.
It's going to be an exciting ride :)

Riddick you old dog, how are you? im in london now working in TV. As for your comment- remember Ratko Draskovic hanging the 8 rd distance with Audley? Williams then bombed him out in 1.

But Tyson belted Danny on the jaw with some absolute dingers, and he hits 10 times harder then the legendary (imo) Keith Long.
Haye probably could stun or knock down Danny, but old fatty always gets up swinging and i remember how knackered Carl THompson made Haye when it became a fight.
As for Sprott, hes put into perspective the hopes of a string of pretenders, Audley, Pele, Potter, Holden, Virchis, Timo, Greenberg (in the gym that last one), i wouldn't be surprised if he does the same to the PLayboy.

I think on recent form Haye beats danny worse than his momma, I do recon that on current form Sprott would be a realy interesting learning fight for Haye. A bit like Mark Hobson he'll never be a world beater but most people who squear up to him will know they have been in a fight. If people beat him it shows they mean something at european level. Add to the list of people that Sprott has ended the hopse to a couple of times getting jobbed in germany as "the opponent."

My God, I feel ill. I cannot believe anyone mentions these guys names anymore. Autobarn is right, its a nightmare waatching these men fight. Slow lumbering and unskilled, losing constantly to each other. Together their fights are the worst Ive ever witnessed. I could not bare to watch anymore of these British HW comedies. Haye should look to other parts of the world and aim straight for the champs. Not a fan of Hayes, simply because he has as much stamina as the rest of the crap British HWs, but he perhaps has a bit more skill and of course, a powerful and consistant KO punch. TBH nothing in the HW division excites me, not even Haye, though I would be happy if he made some inroads.

He has better stamina than he did, and I think that Skelton and Sprott have good stamina too look at the people he's been the distance with Vidos, Skelton, Koc, Virchis, Dettweiler not a gasser.
Also Haye is taller than Hasim Rahman, Sprott and John Ruiz, just thought I'd through that into the mix.

Haye wasn't out cold againt Twite, or at least that's not the way he told it. He said he was up but on unsteady legs.
Twite threw an amateurish punch that Haye never expected to come and he didn't approach the fight with any purpose, got caught and the ref stopped the fight.
Has anyone actually seen footage of this fight?
Have heard rumours that he's been KO'd a couple of times in sparring by heavies Dolan and Price.
Haye's chin is no secret, I don't think he's chinny but he's definitely getting KO'd if a real heavy clocks him flush.
The same could be said about 95% of the top heavyweights if Haye lands on them.
Exciting times.
Perhaps he'll join that list of beloved fighters who made it to the top despite their vunerabilities like Thomas Hearns and Nigel Benn. Everybody loves a vunerable KO artist.
