Lenny Daws should have lost

I'm not disputing the scoreline, as I too had it 5-5 in rounds, but he spent almost the whole fight with the top of his head in Wright's face. I noticed it very early on and it wasn't until the last round the ref spoke to him about it.
By the way, I was a neutral for the fight, so no bias whatsoever, I just feel Daws should have had a point deducted for this obvious (to me) tactic.

It was a pretty even bout IMO and I cheered the ref from my armchair for declaring it a draw - Have to say there was as much wrestling as there was boxing which I didnt like - Daws seems to have gone off the boil a bit, not as good as he was - Yes Daws was stopping the flow of the fight but I didnt see a deliberate foul with the head - Im sure the ref warned about heads earlier on, he clearly wasnt happy about all the leaning on - You expect this more with HWs who are more flat footed but not with the lighter lads who should be quick on their feet moving in and out of range - Fair enough if you have taken a shot and you are waiting for your head to clear.

Shame for Nigel, he trained out of his socks for this fight and really fancied it this time around

I didn't score the fight properly with a card, but I did feel Wright JUST nicked it irrespective of a possible point deduction.
Very close fight. I was a little dissapointed in the fight, no disrespect intended to either - but I have been fans of both and I was just a little dissapointed in the skills (not heart or effort) in both. It was English title level, but I see both as maybe a little higher than that.... Wasn't really evident on yesterday's showing.

I was really rooting for Nigel in this one but i'd have to say a draw seemed a fair result. I've been impressed with his last couple of displays and met him at a show and found he was a top bloke too. If anyone deserved a lucky break its Wright.
What do people reckons next for these two? A rematch maybe with the winner getting a crack at Colin Lynes?

Yeah, strange to think of Daws beating Lynes now, isn't it.
And what about Adam SMith continually telling us how great a fight it was?
But as for Daws' headwork, some might argue it was just his style, but I don't think so. Almost every time they got in close, it was THEN that he would dip his head and push it fdorwards, so his skull was in Wright's face. It wasn't natural forward momentum.

I'm with oliver. I thought Wright won it quite well, but I was watching from telly where you can have a different idea of how a fight has gone.

I was sitting on the balcony (great view) and to be honest I thought Wright won it by a 2 or 3 rounds

I didn't think he won it "quite well". As said, I had it 5-5 in rounds, but I definitely think Daws should have had a point off, which would have swung it Wright's way.

I think these two would serve up the same again next time, still it wouldn't make it a bad fight tho'.
I doubt Wright would be able to force the issue much more than he did cos although he obviously had less success from the middle onwards, he seemed in great shape and "up for it" so I fail to see how he could have more strenght/stamina next time to be honest.
I wanted him to win like cos he's from the North East!

Sorry Oliver, never read your post properly - just the headline.
I had it by 2 to Wright from telly. It reminded me of Bell-Femi. The rounds Bell won he won clearly but got no favours for closer rounds. Same thing happened to Nigel IMO.
Only way to sort it out is a third match as pros

both intent on not getting beat made a mediocre fight, could do better on cvs, on this performance dont see lynes fight on horizon for either

Colin Lynes is clearly a far better fighter these days and I dont see either of them beating him.

Why not? Who else has Lynes got to face at British level? If he wants to win the British title outright then I can see him fighting one or both of these guys as a voluntary defence.

lynes has to fight barnes next as mandatory then you could be correct, i think he might fight daws to win belt for keeps, just to prove he was not fully fit first time round

Ted Bami.

Is Bami actually eligible for the British title? Either way that would be a decent fight for Lynes, yes. He could also smash Theophane's head in if he wants an easy defence. Apart from them there is no one else to fight for the British title, unless some fighters move up from Lightweight or down from Welterweight.
Anyway, my point was that neither Daws or Wright are out of the British title picture and fighting each other again is not their only option. What about either of them fighting Olusegun for the commonwealth title?

where are all the mugs who hailed daws as the next big thing after he "beat" a very ill and ill prepared lynes?
the guy is 3rd rate. end of.

Sorry, a bit late with my reply. Without any point deduction, I scored it 7-5 to Wright.

Absolutley unbelievable

.
Ican't believe you can notice headwork, but NOT such OUTRAGEOUS and PERSISTANT holding from Wright.
Wright has built a reputation for spoiling as soon as things get uncomfortable form him and this has to be his worst example yet.
I can't bring myself to say 'fair play' to Wright, but he clearly did his homework on Daws this time.....Cheat much harder than he did before and cling on for dear life.
To be honest, Wright should have been thrown out for persistant holding long before the finish. I had Daws winning 96-94, but the scorecards shouldn't have been required

Shame on the referee.

I have to half agree(don't think Wright should have been thrown out) .
Wright was holding anytime Daws got close and Daws often tryed to push him off with his head . 6 of one half a dozen of the other and if you ignore the fouls on bout sides I felt 5-5 was right so imo a fair result .
