anyone know if he is still alive? My grandfather fought him in 1957 (Potgieter vs. olson) "The Greatest Tonnage Fight" in Portland Oregon. He was in a coma for a couple weeks after the fight (my grandpa). Everyone since then has thought he died from that fight so i am on a mission to fix this misconception and that inlcudes, trying to let Potgieter know he DIDNT kill a man in the ring. Potgeiter paid for Olson's hospital bills with the winnings from the fight and visited him oin the hospital butt he was still in the coma when he saw him, and my grandmother thinks tha its possible that Potgieter doesnt know that he lived!! Bruce Olson didnt die until 2001
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyone able to help me?

my email is [email protected]

I did a thread once on giants who boxed. The list went a bit like this:

-Charles Freeman
-Ed Potgieter
-Jim Cully
-Gogea Mitu

etc etc etc

I dun know if he is still alive or not, but I do recall that this 7'2" Heavyweight had a draw with a leading contender for Marciano's title. Why he retired, I do not know or recall. I imagine because of pituitary problems, which lead to his great height, might have resulted in an early death as most victims of this rare disorder are lucky to make their 40's.
