I notice on an Ali Atom promotion at The Croation Club, Punchbowl on Dec 14 American Emanuel Augustus is listed to fight a 10 rounder. He has a 35-29 record , is still only 32 yrs, has won 4 of his last 6. This guy has fought some of the really big names ( check his record). So who is the opponent?Given this guys record would it be Rob Medley at Welterweight, Lovemore Ndou at lt welterweight. Maybe too big a step for Lance Gostellow yet. Whoever it is this beats the hell out of Thai taxi drivers and Manilla folders. Any thoughts or inside info?

It seems this is the same night of Dawson v Geale (if it happens this time). From all account Augustus is a great journeyman, it would be good to see him in action. It looks like Lawrence Tauasa is also on that card. Looks like we will be spoiled for choice on 14 Dec!

geez sounds good... would i be correct in saying the croation club probably put on the best semi-regular professional shows in sydney? by this i am excluding big shows like bad blood, green mundine etc

I'd check it out if you can, Augustus is overrated to be honest but he's a good fighter and puts on a good show. He's very entertaining, and he can't punch much so even when he fights outclassed opponents he still goes a few rounds and entertains the crowd.

I wonder why he is fighting here? Seems strange that they would have someone like that without an opponent lined up...

No question that Emanuel Augustus is past his best but I think he will give Allan Luxford a good fight at Junior Welterweight.

Good to see him fighting in Australia. I watched him spar Tszyu in his preparation for the Hatton fight and gave Tszyu good sparring.

It looks I will set my DVD recorder for the Dawson V Geale fight and head off to Punchbowl to watch Tauasa and Augustus fight live.

They will probably throw him in with Rolando Gerondco or Junmar Dulog.

Emanuel was Kostya's sparring partner for Hatton's fight.

While here in 2005 he met a girl, whom he's now married and decided to make OZ his home.

Your knowledge never ceases to amaze me mate, cheers :TU:

He could be the seasoned journeyman type fighter our prospects need...

Not the first time a fighter has migrated to these shores. John Mugabi relocated here in the '90s, and he was a formed WBC Junior Middle champ and no 1 middleweight contender.

And, of course, Aussie Joe, who has respected more in his 40s by you lot than in his prime by us lot, because he had the temerity to be born in a foreign country.

I thought Joe came here to avoid his alimony payments. He could never fight for shit anyway.

He is still without an opponent.

He was going to fight Ben Rabah but Rabah pulled out or remains retired. One of the two.

Ben Rabah, who is asthmatic, was very sick at the end of his fight with Ndou. He may have decided he was better off out of boxing.

While on the topic of better opponents for our aussie boys a Peter Maniatis card on March 28 next year ( now theres someone planning ahead!) shows two good overseas fighters.Rev Santillan (24-3 boxrec no 14 welterweight) a filipino fighting out of Japan and Dennis Laurente (28-3 boxrec no37 light welterweight are both listed. At this stage there opponent is the well travelled TBA but Laurente could possibly be a Lance Gostellow opponent.

Looks like TBA is still fighting the whole card on the 14th. When the hell does this get sorted out?

Maybe the promoter could ask a few of the Liberal MPs who got arseholed last weekend if they want to try something different.

Two weeks to go and still no opponent. This is really strange.
