Right off the top of my head I know that Liston and Tiger made more than one defense.

nope ur wrong about sonny. liston defended in his patterson rematch and then lost to Ali. i stand corrected however bout Tiger who made 2 defenses, against Torres and Rouse i believe. previously i though the rouse fight was non-title

I believe Henry Armstrong won Featherweight title, then gave it up before defending it. Then went on to Welterweight and Lightweight titles.

How about this one guys......Ken Norton. Here's another......Max Schmeling.
Regarding The Hammer, he held all three titles at once.

Armstrong never defended the featherweight title. He won it, then won the welterweight title and then dropped down to win ther lightweight title. He voluntarily relinquished the feather title. His holding three of the then existing eight titles was the reason the New York Boxng Commission (and i think the NBA too) made the rule that no one could hold more than one title at a time. For a while champions in a lower weight were giving up that title to challenge for the heavier one (Billy Conn, etc) until the later, and fairer, rule came in that they could fight for the higher title .If they lost they kept the lighter one. If they won, the title was declared vacant as soon as the decision was rendered.

Tim Witherspoon was WBA and WBC HW champ. He made one "successful" defense in his career. Witherspoon was very good.
Jersey Joe Walcott had one succesful defense, 2-6-1Ko in world HW title fights overall.

Jimmy Ellis:
Won WBA Heavyweight title defeating Jerry Quarry 4/68.
Successfully defended WBA title against Floyd Patterson 9/68.
Defeated by Joe Frazier 2/70 for world title, and lost WBA title.
Ellis was inactive during 1969. I don't know why. Anyone know?
