Is anyone really surprised? This data is worth a fortune to certain people and if it has found it's way into the wrong hands will no doubt create a bidding war to get hold of it. Well worth stealing if you know how to sell it. This info shouldn't just be sent in the bloody post, it should be monitored all the way.

Banks are throwing your details aroundall the time because they don't want to pay the extra security costs. Risk vs reward, they'd rather take a chance that no one will find it.

Will anyone get sacked for this? I doubt it.

There has already been one resignation. Hmmm........

its a bit daft though the only guy who should be sacked is the bloke who sent it the way that they are all instructed not to send it, I don't know what more people can do but put rules in place about how to deal with such information.

well at least it puts a stop to the id card idea.

this lot couldnt keep half the countires private information private so the id card idea with all our detuials has to be anon starter.

What a fecking joke as a nation we are becoming.

Pinching pennies to lose pounds just other people's (THE PUBLIC) pounds.

bout sums it up really.

Sorry J, but I.D. cards are still going to happen, its been said officially that they aren't , but unofficially they are still big moves to make this happen.

By June 2008 there should be an annoucment

well that will signal the end of labour's nanny state. They will lose by a landslide if they go ahead with it.

seriously this lot have been in too long, its time for a change.

as it was when the tories had been in power for 3 + terms.

I have no particular political leaning to be honest as stated on here before.

this is now geting to the point where we cant trust our own government to have the sense to keep sensitive information safe.

Utter disgrace they arent havign my fuckign details for the id card I can tell you that much. Mind you in q4 2008 Ill hopefully be working in Barbados so it wont bother me til they are out of power I guess.

Would rather this lot than a load of public school boys who don't have any clue about real peoples lifes. When asked what caused knife crime david cameron said hip hop music on radio one, the tories don't have any answers. I dissagree with Labour on a lot but some things they have done have been good.

There seems to be not much differnce between the Tories and Labour parties now.
Labour have forced out the left wing , and now seem hell bent on bringing in tighter and tighter civil liberty laws.

You would think that the Liberal party would take advantage and be able to move ahead, but they seem to have gone completly the other way.

The liberals were founded by a bunch of scabs who didn't like liabours internal democracy and everyone is supprised when they fall out all the time.

Civil Liberties are bad but remember that stuff like 90 day detention was defeted basically because Labour back benchers not all of whom were neccessarily left wing were against it.

I don't think Brown is brave enough to try to push through ID cards right now because he doesn't want to take an uneccessary paisting.

i actually used to work with Vince cable, very nice and decent man, quite funny too. Head economist he was.

Josh Im not advocating cameron but it is time for a change, and unless the lib dems get their act together the tories are the only viable option.

but they will be useless its fornicating pointless, we cant even trap terrorists at our airports so how the frigg they seem to think stop and search will work I have no idea.

And id cards are no solution at all.

Look how easy it is to forge passports and other diocs these will be just the same.

Its also another impingement by this fornicating nanny state we elected.

Well given the choice between the longest period of sustained economic growth in british history to a party lead by Norman Lamontts SPAd (special political advisor) I know who I don't trust.

dedpan, you seem to be intonating that the government would bomb the tubes to get through ID cards, thats bollox

Although I.D. cards will still come in IMO, it won't make much difference, the last attempted bombing in Glasgow was carried out by doctors, all quite legally in the U.K.
In fact they would have been 'fastpathed' into the UK system (national insurance numbers etc.), this is done because they work for the NHS.

Having to carry an I.D. card by law would only mean that illigal immigrants are able to be identified, it wouldn't address any of the problems brought by religous extremism.

The thing is even with a potential 7/7 the ID cards will be no more justifed. Its just not a good idea, it'll also end up alianating the communities we need to keep on side to defeat terrorism as it will just become a new sas law.

Hmmm indeed! All we need now is for Ian Blair & Gordon Brown to resign, both are about 99% unlikely to hand in their resignation though!

Blair is the chief of police, his job is to ensure the safety of the public. The safety of the public was not paramount in the execution (that's what it was) of Jean Charles De Menzes.

It has now been revealed the goverment took shortcuts, sending the discs by courier for delivery. Is it any surprise that they went missing or were stolen?

Blair & Brown: Incompetency of the highest scale.
