Interesting to see Floyd working with Baldomir. Nice to see two guys who fought each other now helping each other out in the gym. Mayweather shows high dedication by running at around 3am. The gym seems dead apart from Floyd being there. Leonard Ellarbe looks exhausted from just being up at that time!
I know hitting the pads doesn't mean a great a deal & that pads don't hit back, but damn, Floyd is exceptionally fast. He doesn't even need to look at the target & he still performs the routine near-perfect. I'm competent at skipping, but not in Mayweather's league.
Good footage of Ricky jumping the bar & I'm glad to see a cushioned mat underneath the bar as landing on a solid floor couldn't be good for his joints.
Hatton has one the best training regimes around, along with sound people in Billy Graham & Kerry Kayes. I really feel Kayes is a massive part of team Hatton, more so than what some people might first think. Kerry knows all there is to know about getting the correct nutrients, which is imprtant for anyone, even more so for someone training as hard as Ricky.
Slowly, but surely, the weeks, days have gone by. The fight is upon us. I cannot wait.
I'm a fan of both boxers, but there's never been a question mark over who I'm cheering for.
Get in there, Ricky!

Nail on head???
Roger mayweather is a joke. The pad session IS a routine. The padman does all the work, id say Roger does more work than Floyd. Watch and see. Next time you see him on pads watch Roger alone.
Mayweather is a great fighter but his training methods(the ones we see)
are far from great
No opponent is gonna stand and let you hit him with a 34-punch combo

You can't be serious, you think it takes great skill and years of practise to be able to do what Floyd does on the pads?

It's a piss poor gimmick and funny as fornicate how he thinks he's good when he does it..
Anyway, I liked the ending with Hatton in the car, got the impression he might of been forced to say that though.

Terry D wrote:That pad thing is a trick alright. It is bollocks. Floyd extends his arm halfway and Roger his halfway and Roger meets Floyd. That is why Floyd can look away. It is not dissimilar to a female dancer smiling to the crowd as her partner leads her, she just has to be sure she puts her steps out.
It is not giving him ideal exstension but Floyd's game is not about that. He just knows how to fight pure and simple.
Watching Toney-Littles I'm still convinced that Toney mastered a better, offensively, version of the defence Floyd uses.
Yes, I know what you mean, the trainer sort of plants the mitts onto the gloves as they come towards him. It's all very impressive, but also pretty meaningless, much like the argument about how the speed ball was important for hand eye co-ordination.

There's no sort of about it!! Some trainers 'sort of' do it, Roger Mayweather slaps his hand more blatant than most coaches ive seen
Plus speedball imo is great for timing and getting used to keeping your hands up for 3 constant minutes. which is tougher than it sounds!!

I was talking about this to a guy in the gym today. I never considered it but he suggested that that's all it is - a gimmick. It's telling that that's the only thing that they let the cameras see.
I can fully believe that they are so secretive with all their real training that the only thing they let the world see is the pointless pad stuff & the skipping.
Uncle Roger's unfilmed training techniques and the sparring must be the secret to Floyd's success.

They dont show allot of Floyds stuff, they showed a brief amount of power pad work of floyd in the background. Sparring is off limits to cameras and so is allot of stuff so what they dont show maybe more interesting.
Ndou and Baldomir are good sparring choices. Are there many better Hatton replicas below 154?
Mayweathers speed pad work will develop compact speed and stamina. In close parrying ability. He used this really well against Hoya when both threw fast shots on the ropes Floyd parryed everything and landed his own.

LOL @ some of the comments in here.
You people think there is some divine secret to the way Floyd Mayweather boxes...there isn't.
It's a combination of athleticism and honed skill from sparring. The actual techniques he uses are improvisations based upon years of a) watching fighters; and; b) endless drilling in front of a mirror...
The pull counter he uses is a perfect example.
Speaking of which, I remember when Barry McGuigan thought PBF said "poor counter" when he was explaining how he KO'ed Ndou. Just shows that even former world champions don't know these BASIC counterfighting techniques.

Would have to say Ndou (Lovemore?) and Baldomir are a bit slow to replicate Hatton. Neither one really knows how to close the distance before the opponent is comfortably tucked up or halfway across the ring!

You can't often get a sparring partner that will replicate a world class perfomance unless your called Ali and have a young Larry Holmes

Terry D wrote:As trainers I don't rate Roger or Floyd Senior. It is a cliche but they shout a bit too much about how they are great trainers. As someone once said when SRR's trainer said the same thing: "Who else have you trained?"
Floyd Senior's advice is often shit, close fight with Forbes-Hopkins and he tells Forbes not to bother in the final round as they are going to nick it..
Well they've both trained Mayweather Jr whos an ATG. I think he did a great job with Forbes for 1, Forbes took 9 rounds for me against DHOPs.
Floyd Sr has had Delahoya, Chad Dawson and Juan Guzman. All these fighters were already world class but Sr seemed to have brought them on skill wise. Delahoya was better in his 2 fisted attack and had better defense under Floyd Sr. Dawson and Guzman looked a bit better defensively under Mayweather
Roach seems overated, he gets the best fighters so its. He gets fighters conditioned really well but whos really improved under him?
The thing with Emmanual Steward is he latches onto the best in the world. Back in his Detroit days he'd have countless young prospects go life and death with each other in sparring and them pick the best of the winners. Then he latches onto Lewis, Wlad, Harris, Cintron. All his fighters have the same characteristics from the offset. He knows how to pick them and thats for sure.
1 thing about Steward is his fighters tend to get caught with a haymaker going backwards or run out of gas prematurely and get ko'd. This applys to Lennox, Wlad, Harris, Hearns, McCellan

Taking one half each of a potentially great fighters career does not a great trainer make. Ray Leonard did most of his work with a coach whose name escapes me, Dundee was the fine tuner, but was that coach great? Is Pepe Correa?
Forbes-Hopkins had some nip and tuck rounds and Mayweather tells his charge they are going to steal it from him between rounds in a negative, "don't bother manner", and that is good work? Not in my book.
Floyd Senior did little for Oscar in my opinion. His in-fight corner work again left a lot to be desired and although he has worked with good names how many of those names moved on? Genius, if he was, is difficult but you work with it rather than walking away.
Do you think Floyd Senior is on a par with Manny? Steward trained Hearns from the start. Gave Holyfield the second Bowe fight. Turned Lewis into a different fighter, plus Lewis is also a great one. He worked with Moorer when Moorer was a decent fighter. He is currently getting Cintron performing above his level. Trained Breland. McCall, gave him the Lewis win in fact. A whole host of names testify for Steward, he can turn a big lump like Wlad into a more rounded fighter. He is far better as a trainer.
Floyd is a gem, only an idiot could go wrong with him. Floyd Senior and Roger are not outstanding trainers, their surname got them everything. Floyd could sack Roger tonight and still fight well, arguably he would be better placed as he won't have to worry about his uncle's behaviour.
Floyd does not seem to listen in the corner and when he does it is to Leonard and not Roger. You get a limited amount of words you can use and Roger uses half of them to say "mufferfooker" rather than impart advice.
Floyd also got himself through his biggest crisis.
I don't think a fighters born. The best fighters have learnt their trade from many a place. Mayweather Jr would not be the fighter he is today without Sr and Roger. A boxing family helps, they can impart all their knowledge and build on their failures. Floyd likely is not more naturallt talented than Roger, but he has ofcourse built his game to a higher level than Roger. Honestly there are many fighters with as good or better natural ability as Floyd, Zab Judah springs to mind.
The thing that mystyfys me is Floyd's 'I never watch boxing tapes' comment. True or False. Because Floyd sometimes looks like a carbon copy of the Argeninian defensive genius of the 70s Loche.
Rogers corner work may not be the best BUT cornerwork is only 1 part of a great trainer. Prepping a fighter and working on his weaknesses is another that I'm sure Roger does well.
What would you say was Floyds biggest crisis? Corley? Castillo (Broke ribs)?
I find it very interesting that the Mayweathers keep their REAL TRAINING behind closed doors. I suppose sparing maybe a good idea to keep there in case it exposes a weakness or 2.
How good is Steward? Recently I don't think hes been too good at all and maybe its that I'm sure hes great at teaching a few things but he always grabs the best talent and that makes it allot easier. Yes he had Hearns from the start but Kronk was packed with talent and Hearns was a freak of nature at 147-154. I think Steward maybe great at teaching powerful right handers and good 1-2 boxing but how good is he as a whole?
Stewards recent proteges are Wlad, Cintron, Harris and Taylor. All wonderfully talented but Taylor and Contron have performed very poorly recently and Wlad and Harris collapsed because of poor conditioning. Cintron was supposed to look terrible last time out and will probably lose to Williams next time.
So how good is Steward? It is hard to fail when you have a talent pool as deep as his. BUT Wlad and Lewis were already world champions. All he did for those fighters was to tell them to keep a tight guard and be careful not to get countered.
McGirt was touted as a top trainer a few years ago. Now hes been shown up to be pretty terrible. Trying to get Gatti to box against Mayweather helping Tarver lose his big 1 and trying to turn Brewster into a skilled boxer.
All in all I don't know how good the Mayweathers are as trainers, they could be amazing or they could have got lucky.

floyd broke his hand vs hernandez, in the 5th or 6th, and faught on to win a decision.
he was hurt vs corley, and faught back hard to actually win the round...
also, i never heard of floyd braking a rib/s... it was his shoulder that was hurt (rotator cup) no? (castillo 1 fight)
