Green-V-Briggs

If Danny Green beats Stipe Drews for the WBA Light Heavyweight title and fought Paul Briggs how big would it be in Australia & who do you think would win it?

At this point I think Green would win it. BUT this is not a fight I want to see, as I believe it would be permanently damaging for both fighters' careers and health. They are both big punchers with iron chins and decent workrate and after 12 rounds (assuming it went the distance) neither man would be the same again IMO. It would be a big fight, and possibly a classic, but it wouldn't be anywhere near as big as Mundine-Green.

That is a fair call, both these guys are very well liked in Aus so it wouldn't have the same rivalry aspect as Green Mundine but it would be a great fight...

I know that it doesn't really matter, but aren't they good mates? Perhaps this might put a spanner in the works?

They will have to fight each other sooner or later.

This could turn into a great Australian rivalry, like Ron Richards and Fred Henneberry back in the '30s. My father used to rave about the fights they had.

I think Briggs would wear down Green, Briggs has faught some good fighters and always keeps active and slugs it out. Would be an awesome fight though. I think it would only be big for the boxing die hard fans and maybe a few semi boxing fans.

I think you may be suprised how big it would be if they are fighting for a world championship (which hopefully Danny wins), especially if it was held in Perth. The general sports loving public always get excited about Aussies fighting for a world title.

I reckon it would be in Sydney and it would be huge!

if briggs can get a title of his own then i think it would be huge and then mundine could step up and we could see a few fights between the 3 of them and could light a fire under australian boxing
i think green will beat drews ,briggs would beat green, mundine would beat briggs and then probably beat green again and then maybe he would have a chance at getting a fight with calzaghe at light heavyweight

I think due to Briggs inactivity that Green would stop him. But the fight would be huge and I'd hope be shown at some point in the UK! They have to meet don't they?

has anyone change their thoughts re this given green's annilation of drews?

if you think briggs can even get close you need your heads read! briggs fought a very average middle weight opponent last fight and just got over the line.

green has gone from strength to strength at light heavy and would destroy briggs. i also do not believe that briggs deserves the opportunity after his last performance and afterall he has had two opportunities before!

I remember when fenech was training him he sparred with briggs on a few ocassions but I haven't heard that he has since then. Green now seems to be smarter and getting his training opponents to match the guy he is fighting- eg gurov for drews.

I saw them sparring a few times. It was good work for both guys I wouldn't say either struggled...

All very interesting but the question is what is Briggs up to? Is he training?Has he recovered from the virus he was supposed to have.? His last fight was awful, he looked a shadow of his former self. Lets hope he's fit ,well & back on track. Does anyone know?
