First time poster, long time reader. Hello Everyone.
I have always liked watching Tony fight, but did he REALLY beat Omar Sheika?
How?
I remember Omar's brave efforts against Calzaghe and Lacy.

Yeah he fought Tony Booth, whereas JC was against Paul Hanlon?
Booth beat Sheika because he was in shape, naturally a lot bigger, and can jab, Omar just rushed in with no finesse

On the same show Chris Eubank came to the end of the road retiring against Carl Thompson, Also Howard Clarke upset Jason Papillion which earned him a shot at Vargas.
A young Ricky Hatton was having his 7th fight, how many who saw him that night winning on points against Anthony Campbell thought he would be fighting for the P4P title in a few years?
Add to that Kelly Oliver getting upset by John Keaton.
Other fighters on that bill were James Hare , Johnny Nelson and Anthony Farnell.

I think I have the tape still somewhere. Maybe I should watch it one more time, as I remember it likeable Booth was very lucky.

I was there that night. Tony beat him fair and square. I think Omar's trainer that night was Kevin Rooney: The guy who took Tyson to the heavyweight championship! and yes, he wasn't best pleased

Old bones,
You conveniently passed over Ryan Rhodes on that bill.
He was making his comeback from the Otis Grant defeat and put up a cracking performance against Laurent Szabo.
I still say to this day it's his best stoppage win, catching Szabo with the best body shot I've seen him throw, in the 8th round.
There were some cracking bills back then particularly in Sheffield and I do miss em.

Tony Booth is far better than people think, given he is in the right frame of mind.
He gave Crawford Ashley all he could handle for the british title, and is fighting at heavyweight at the moment, in real terms if Tony started training he could possibly be a middleweight, but for now he is happy to pick up the pay days.
If you get chance check out "could of been a contender" was on setanta sports 1 hr documentry on tony, i'll try find it on youtube.

Can't remember if I saw the Booth-Sheika fight, but do recall being surprised at Tony winning when i saw the result.
Speak of Booth I saw his last fight down in Plymouth and although he didn't come to fight (his opponent was massive!) he gave the crowd a good laugh with his usual antics....shuffle, winding up the right arm bolo-style, playing to the crowd
