Sometimes i am more amazed at boxers like Peter Buckley and Tony Booth than elite boxers like DLH

Boxing is a tough game

You have to admire the man - He has had tons of fights since he last won in 2003 - Many, in fact most would have given up by now but he still plods on - For saying he has lost so many times, he hasnt been stooped that often - Fair play to a tough ungifted fighter.

lets not turn this into another 'lick buckleys arse' thread, personally i shall be glad to see the back of him, once upon a time peter used to try and win.....but that was many many years ago, and he would be a liar if he said otherwise.

get your 300 up, get your congratulations, then fade away.... please !!

I had a conversation down the pub, months ago now, with a few people that had/have an interest in the sport (taking in a few more that have little interest - if any at all) through one way or another.

Anyways, Buckley came up in the convo and given the level, the pub comedian of the group belted up saying imagine if you were Buckley and no one knew who you were from adam and Buckley says he was a fighter. ‘Oh really mate? How many fights did you have then?' asks the unitiated. ‘300’ says Buckley. ‘fornicate off’ comes the reply. ‘I bet you haven't had 30 fights’. Well I did’, says Buckley. ‘How many did you win then?’. ' Well I fought all the best around, but you can’t win them all’. Large laughs all round and a respect was had by most.

Sums this singleminded journeyman up I think.

I guess its all too easy to over look Buckleys achievments :(

There is no suggestion he is in there for anything but to give the `prospect` a few rounds...and to save the show from the no show.

But how much talent does it take to avoid getting stopped by these usually naturally heavier, younger, determined kids who are throwing everything at you to get you out of there :-?

It looks easy from the safe side of the ropes ... I don`t imagine most here would last into the double figures of fights given the chance peter and the like are given

Do you think He'll try to win his 300th?

That would be nice..but who will that fool

I guess he`d be more concerned about staying on his feet and getting a good little pay day.

I would have thought a greatful promoter would put him on a bill for the 300th and give him some cash with him having made a fine contribution to the sport, that is ofcorse assuming that boxing is a benevilant business, however Warren can certainly earn himself some browny points with us knowledgable fans if he does that.

I'll also be happy to see the back of him, someone should of put a stop to it ages ago.. if the kids need a workout, get them on a bag, instead of using someone.

Buckley takes some whacks for his troubles, i've seen him take punches that other 'journeymen' would look to the floor, but he sucks it up and carrys on till the fights end, can't fault hin for that.

Anyway its a free world , as long as he passes all his medicals , and the board keeps an eye on him, then he should be allowed to box.

Years ago I remember the likes of Miguel Matthews getting ino hot water with their local boards over losing streaks far shorter than Buckley's. They seem to have eased up on this point over time.

Re: Rhino's point - I would like to see you, or any other arm chair critic, take on younger, naturally heavier fighters on a consistent basis and NOT learn to adapt your style to mitigate receiving a severe beating time and again.

Don't knock Buckley for making a living - knock the promoter's match makers and the prospect's managment team.

Its not as if the promoters are passing Buckley off as top of the bill. Then people could moan, but he's usually on early , and gives a young boxer a workout.

I think you'll find he was called to meetings in July and September and was interviewed by the Midlands Area Council.

Fair play Kev - cheers for clearing that point up.

That said, his role is important when it comes to saving shows from late pull outs etc so whilst his fights aren't the most entertaining on the bill, where would we be without the likes of Buckley??

The Welsh board are very strict, Mark Phillips was called up last Thurs and he won the British Masters 5 fights ago!

It's good for everyone all round really that Pete's allowed to fight on. The promoter has someone to step in at the last moment if necessary, the up-and-coming fighter gets a workout which might not be easy, and Pete gets paid - it'll help his bills/mortgage etc, so everyone's a winner.

bollocks terry (apologies for the anglo saxon....), im not a boxer so why would i want to prove myself against young up and coming fighters, its their bloody job for gods sake, neither am i a professional footballer nor a test match cricketer... but hey, im entitled to be an armchair critic as its all about opinion. if footballers did not try to score goals or tackle, if a cricket bowler did not try to take wickets and a batsmen did not try to score runs...then there would be an outcry. so what makes boxing an exception, its supposed to be a sport...a competetive sport !!

ben 'catweazle' hudson, a friend of mine, had a phone call from the board about 6 months or so ago, it was about how they were watching him because of his seeming innability to win fights and perhaps not be trying in them. there was the potential for him to have his licence removed !!!

what gives buckley the right to be exempt from this sort of accusation or official board scrutiny ?

I think Bollocks is Latin in origin not Anglo Saxon its the monosyllabic words which are generally Anglo Saxon.

The thing is as I have said he teaches the young lads a lot in a safer way its not like fighting ammeter cos he knows all the tricks its not like hitting a punch bag cos he hits back.

I'd be interested to see him do some punditry and see how much he has picked up against all these guys he has been in the ring with. Won't happen cos he hasn't had any belts though.
