i think there is only so many fights every few years that have boxing fans really excited.

this aint just a boxing match for us fans but i think general sports fans are getting into this fight big time. ive read on some football sites that many are having big partys in thier house so that they can watch the fight.

personally i have a few family members who will sit up with me on saturday night so they can see this fight....they aint big boxing fans but they are right into this one.

we / they all want hatton to win...thats normal but i wonder how much £ the pay per view will make in this countty as i think it will break most records.

Hatton has really grown this year, going on Jonathan Ross and Parkinson and never being out of The Sun or The Mirror or off of Sky Sports News. And Rooney carrying belt helped A LOT.

This fight is easily the biggest since Naz and Bruno-Tyson II, even though many haven't seen Hatton or Mayweather fight. I think it might be even bigger than Khan-Kindelan II and Harrison-Williams I, honestly.

Definately couldn't agree more. The amount of my friends who would never dream of staying up till 4am to watch this fight and who are, is outstanding.

Two fighters, one very popular and one everyone loves to hate, one P4P champion the other aiming to be there. Both on top of their game. This has the making of such a great fight and a huge boost for boxing.

You have got to be kidding comparing any of those bouts with Hatton/Mayweather - I have seen nothing since Ali/Frazier 1 that has gripped the public so much, never mind boxing fans - Another very important fact is this is a British fighter against an American and probably the most popular British fighter of all time - I watched Ali win against Liston - They were boxings glory days - The British all over the country got up in the night to see Clay fight - I remember my Father looking through the window saying "almost all the neighbours are up" - Tyson fights were never quite in the same league as far as the general public were concerned - This has to be British boxings biggest ever and its a shame it isnt on ITV or BBC.

I agree with everthing in your post except your prediction - Hatton cannot and will not win on points IMO but he will win by stoppage.

yeah massive fight.

i post on a few non boxing forums and people are actually talking about this one in the sports sections instead of football for a change.

a massive fight in the sport as well. the welterweight and p4p titles on the line here. to think this sold quicker than de la hoya-mayweather. a genuine superfight.

Hey, come on, don't be silly mate. If I asked 100 people in the street, no more than 10 would really know what I was talking about.

If I asked 100 people about Bruno, Tyson, Benn or Eubank fighting, I wouldn't find 2 who didn't know.

But Hatton has grown abit this year.

But Hatton has grown abit this year.

This is probably the biggest fight ever involving a British fighter. An undefeated Brit, who's a two-weight champ, fighting an undefeated 5-weight champ, universally recognised as PFP number 1. The first big fight I watched was Ali-Cooper 2 in 1966. I can't remember one as big since then.

This sort of things happens to me all the time, had you been in the pub all afternoon too?

this is a big fight in boxing terms but the general public don't really care about boxing. barry mcguigan, frank bruno and chris eubank appealed to everyone, as did ali, but boxing seems more alien in recent years.

My final point was "shame it isnt on ITV or BBC" and all those fighters you mention were - I agree hidden away on Sky Sports the general public have only recenly heard more and more about Hatton - I made the point maybe a year ago if Hatton and Khan were interviewed on ITV the average Joe would say "I know thats Khan but whos the other fella" - The daft thing is Hatton was fighting for world titles while Khan hadnt and still hasnt fought for a British one - That aside ask Bruno or Williams if their fights with Tyson compare with this one - Ask Eubank or Benn if they were in this sort of mega fight - Another point I made was, Boxing back in the 50s 60s and 70s was a major sport and Ali was "King of the Ring" during his era - Boxing has gone through a depression this last few years and there has been a "drought" of big fights - Now thanks to the likes of Hatton, Calzaghe, Haye, Khan, Froch etc boxing is on its way back big time and this past few months and obviously including Saturday we have seen/ and will see the best fights for many years - When Ali fights were not televised live they were shown the following evening - It was just like the FA cup in those days, empty pubs and deserted streets (no TVs in pubs then) - If this was on ITV you would get record viewing again for boxing - Having said that maybe the average Joe maybe wouldnt sit up all night but he would certainly watch the replay - This fight is a peice of History, how many fights would fit into that category - I have followed boxing since the 50s (radio then) and no fight involving a British boxer can match this one - I guarantee this is the fight and Ricky is the fighter you will one day tell your grandsons about always assuming they have your interest in the sport.

Other than the intrigue on whether Hatton can pull it off - who thinks it will actually be a good fight?

Don't me wrong the anticipation of whether Ricky will get a decision or not will be enough to keep me at the edge of my seat all night - what I am saying is for those who don't give a toss about boxing - will it be a good fight for them to see??

Really not sure, Ricky always entertains and takes a pride in doing so but Floyd is a better boxer than any previous opponent he has fought - The elusive Floyd could try showboating and taunting Ricky and if he does things could get messy ie fouls, points taken off and the fight would then fall to peices - Really hope nothing like that happens and we get a good clean memorable fight.

IMO WW that is completely irrelevant.

One, neither fighter gives a sh*t as long as it's their hand raised at the end

and Two, you'll watch it anyway and me probably, and countless millions of others.

and 3 , if non boxing fans find it exciting then that's a bonus, the real boxing fans are gonna watch anyway and will carry on watching afterwards even if it's crap.

BUT.......to answer your question, I think it will fairly exciting throughout, (to be fair at their level a tactical battle can take quite a while to play itself out, which is often part of the fascination). And if it's a stoppage , especially a late one it could be quite dramatic. The only early to mid stoppage is a stoppage for Floyd.

Hatton-Mayweather is HUMUNGOUS !!!!

It's huge outside of boxing circles too. I've seen a few pubs/clubs who are advertising the fight, which would probably only be reserved for an England football match....and don't forget Hatton's fight is probably not on until 3/4 am.

I've had loads of work friend asking about Hatton this in the last week or so, and even the women are asking the odd question as well.

Reminds me of when Lewis boxed Holfyfield the first time around, I had about 6 or 7 friends all waiting to borrow a tape of it, and it's the same this time with Hatton.

Well ive been aksed by maybe 20 people in the office and maybe another 20 mates who I wouldnt put down as "boxing fans" what time the fight is likely to be on Sat night so it is obviously making crossover appeal to the man in the street.
add tot hsi daily articles in the sun that has a ten mill circulation and its a bit daft to say only 2 or so poeple out of a 100 of the general population know who hatton is.

Eurosport appear to be getting in on the act too, on Saturday their listings state they are showing Hatton-Urango and Hatton-Castillo.

Come Saturday night, Hatton-mania is going to be at fever pitch.

This is the most I've heard casual fans talk about a fight since Hamed was on ITV.

This is massive. A gutsy performance is a must. Victory would just be terrific, I just hope we have some guys; Haye, Froch, Moore, Arthur, Mitchell able to take up the mantle next year when Hatton and Calzaghe have gone.
