Anybody noticed that..? He was doing it before the Collazo fight a lot..

Now i've just read some stuff where he's asking if Floyd has ever fought anyone 'with Ricky Hatton's footwork', or 'with Ricky Hatton's angles', or Ricky Hatton's ability to move quickly onto opponents, or 'Ricky Hatton's ability to thread punches into the tiniest of gaps', or Ricky Hatton's smarts inside, or Ricky Hatton's this, or Ricky Hatton's that, or Ricky Hatton could have sold 4000 tickets from his doorstep, etc..

I'm beginning to think that Hatton is even more arrogant than Floyd Mayweather..???

Now Ellerbe is saying that the reason the fight didn't happen in 05 or 06 is because Hatton kept pricing himself out..!

Hatton does the third person thing In Interviews quite a lot. He's done It for a while now.

Mayweathers own Daddy says he isn't genuine. Mayweather Sr says that Mayweather grew up FAR away from that "gangsta" image he tries to present.

Hatton's camp certainly overplay the 'guy next door' angle. However, what really gets on my goat is when Hatton himself talks about how he is just a 'regular guy' & how 'everybody just loves to love him' kind of bollocks.

Somebody should tell him its best to let other people sing your praises for you. Do it yourself and your sure to come across as a bit of an arse.

In the Guardian and the Times in the last three years or so, there has been article after article after article after article of exactly the same stuff over and over and over and over again. Hatton or the writer saying 'I'm just one of you, a lad from a council estate who plays darts'.

It won't stop!

And someone should sit him down and explain to him that no, he's not a regular guy, he's got £50million laying in his bank, he's a professional boxer, he's in the public eye, he's not a fornicating regular guy at all.

You do come out with some ridiculous bollox sometimes STP. So what if he bangs the 'regular lad' PR drum time and again. Yes it does get a bit boring to the initiated, but he's obviously trying to get as many of that football fan laddish element to buy into his career. My local pub have sold 100 tickets for the fight at £10 a pop (doors shut at 11 and reopen for ticketholders at 1am). The fella is a grafter and people that have shown little or no interest in boxing have bought into Hatton and the fight.

People criticise him for going out on the town and sinking pints of guinness with his long time pals between fights and then claim he isn't the same as them or shouldn't be the same as them because he has a few quid in the bank. Where the fvck you get £50 million from is anyone's guess (but there again you claimed he got £20 million from his last 4 fights in a previous thread).

He's the best example of a fighter earning well taking on the biggest challenge in his career whilst maintaining a down to earth approach that will likely see him come out of the game with his marbles in tact. Good luck to him. All this nitpicking and looking for some defects in his persona or image as a line of criticism just smacks of the typical British envy that wants to knock anyone that's at the top of what they do.

He does do the third person thing, no doubt about that.
I get the feeling that it's all down to marketing gimmicks though.
They are professional athletes and all sports people are briefed for media events, interviews etc.
He may not even like doing it but knows it sells himself by putting bums on seats.

Everybody does it, even dull old JC does it.

Greg - that is a ridiculous statement! Yes the press and PR angle is Hatton's 'ordinariness' and this is overplayed - but that's marketing and PR.

But I have met Hatton on a number of occasions and before he was a big name and he is totally down to earth and really likeable.

To suggest he's arrogant in any way is ridiculous, let alone more aarrogant than boxing's most egotistical exponent.

Somehow saying Ricky Hatton is the best L/Welter out there, seems less arrogant than "I am the best............." As far as him saying he is just an ordinary bloke is concerned, I can understand that - He is trying to say underneath all his wealth and recognition is a very ordinary fella who has done his best not to change - I really do believe he has a hard job getting his head around seeing his name up in lights in Vegas - When you have come from very humble beginnings and risen to the highest heights as he has it cant be easy to come to terms with - On another level completely, people think I am middle class and always had it easy - In truth I am working class and my early days were a real struggle - It doesnt matter if Ricky does have 50 million in the bank, he still acknowledges his old mates and respects his fans and doesnt pretend to be what he isnt - How would you lot cope with his fame and fortune? - As for his tired jokes why dont some of you apply to be his script writers - You have me in stitches sometimes.
